I've got three points as a nonresident for Kansas and would really like to get in on a high quality trophy deer hunt (W.T. or M.D.) I can do archery, muzzle or rifle but am not sure of the better areas or outfitters (or better yet, DIY). 150" W.T. minimum - 180" M.D. minimum. Thanks for any hints.

DIY can be real tuff because most areas to hunt are the The Walk in hunt areas WIHA and most do not open until November and you are then competing with pheasant hunters.

Forget about comming out and getting free access the outfitters have all the prime trophy ground secured.

There are trophy animals of that caliber on some WIHA but it comes down to luck or a lot of time and homework but mostly luck.

State wildlife areas in the area where you will find both muledeer and whitetail is very limited and highly pressured.

You have to pick either Muzzle loader, archery, or rifle you can not do any combination with the exception if you do not fill your ML tag you can come back out during regular rifle and use your ML then as well.

I have had good luck with DIY private land hunts in Kansas for whitetails. You need to decide on a unit and then try to find a place to hunt before you apply.

Crazy , thanks for that link . I've wanted to hunt pheasent for along long time now , but every where we've looked they are very pricey . Dan offers a great hunt at a very affordable price , I read all the testamonials and it seems he runs a class act outfitt . Have you ever gone for birds with him or just deer ? What are the better times to go ? Thanks ....

I've hunted with Dan Three out of the last four years. We have taken some good Whiteys and our share of Pheasent. Of course the best time to hunt Pheasent is Opening day. We've hunted with Dan in December and taken our limits every time. I'm planning a trip up there this year, if you want I can include you in our application. We usually hunt deer for three days and hunt Pheasent for two. :)
