my buddy's dog got a hold of his euro-mount(long story) and chewed on the skull, damaged pretty bad. what can be done?
repro skull?
thanks for any advice

It can probably be fixed. I just got done fixing an elk skull that fell off a guy's wall. He saved most of the big pieces. I pieced back what was there, then filled in the rest with fiberglass and two-part apoxy sculpt, and gave it a paint job. Looked like new.

Just following nmtaxi's suggestions, after piecing it back together, paint it with appliance epoxy and it just might look pretty good. In fact, I have euro mounted my last 7 whities and finished them off with the bright white appliance epoxy and they look great. I get more comments on my euro mounts than my shoulder mounts. Of course part of the reason I paint them is because I struggle getting the bleached approach right, unlike the professionals (taxidermists) who can get the bleached approach done right.

Good luck, hope you can get it fixed.

Last year my wifes dog got one of mine and chewed the G2 off. I had left it for no more than 5-minutes and the dog snuck in and chewed the heck out of it. So, my 18 1/2 inch dark horned mountain whitey has no G2..............

Good luck with it.

Assuming major portions aren't missing, it should be repairable. If it is not salvagable, I suppose a repo, or placing the antlers on another skull would be an option.

I was going to fix up my daughter's first antelope (doe), but the dog got a hold of it and there is no skull left from the eye sockets to what used to be the end of the snout. Cursed canines... She did get a nice buck the next year as a consolation.

Use a few thick coats of glossy fish gloss and put all over the skulls and horns. that way the dogs won't smell it and think of it as a toy. the gloss makes it scent free.

just got off the phone with my bud...the skull is gone as in eaten by the dog from the tip of the nose completely almost to
the bases of the antlers. the dog has been crapping sawdust for a couple days now. i think we will need the repro skull route to fix it. it was bleached obviously and had a coat of shellack(sp?) on the skull so apparently the dog just felt like cheewing on something, toy or not.no damage to the antlers.

A canine skull kinda of looks similar to a deer, just get rid of the dog and there you go!!!! J/K
