Utah Draw Question

Am I hurting my odds by putting in with a group of 3 people in Utah for archery Bookcliffs? Last year it says there were only 7 total tags for non-res. We all had 3 pp going into this year. Will we all have to wait until we have max points to draw together? Would we be able to draw sooner if only 2 of us put in together? Could any one give me some advice on what would be best to do, if I am wanting to draw asap?

Thanks

Jake

As long as you all have the same amount of points you're not hurting your odds. You're all entered into the draw as one and if your number is picked then all three of you recieve tags.

I'm not real familiar with the Utah draw system, but it does seem to me that if there are only 7 tags, you ARE hurting your chances by applying as a party of 3. What happens if your party gets drawn but there is only 1 tag left, or 2? Then I would think that they would continue until a single applicant came up to get that last tag.

I never really thought about it in that way good point. So it may affect your odds some, but only if that situation occured. Does anyone know what they do when something like that occurs?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-19-06 AT 04:54PM (MST)[p]YES!!! It will make it harder!!! let say they are giving 7 NR tags and they are drawing tag # 6. With 3 tags on one app, there are not enough tags left...you go back into the draw, better luck next year.

It is always better to just put yourself on one app. It is fun to hunt with your buddies but if you apply by yourself I am sure your friends will be happy to help, I am sure that will go both ways.

good luck

Safarikid is right. UT kicks you out if you are in a group and there are not enough tags left. Other states like WY simply issue more tags to accomodate the group. That way, your odds are not being hurt. Apply solo in UT.

I believe that you have a option on your application that allows you to choose if your group is rejected do you want to be. I think if you say no, that if this 1,2 tags left and you draw they will give you the tag and not your buddy if the box is checked the correct way. Hope that made sence, I would look into it if you don't care to or not to hunt as a group.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-06 AT 09:40AM (MST)[p]I think the group concept is great, but for LE tags it's better odds and probably a little more exciting to put in alone. Think about it, wouldn't it be better to have a couple of you draw spread out a bit. You all have LE tags, means you all chase the same dreams out there in the hills. You end up not hunting together anyway, have your own plan, etc. If only one draws, you all dedicate your time to that tag vs spreading it out.

Now in other states, I think it is a good idea. Wyoming for instance, it's great putting in with friends/family and go have some fun.

Thanks for all the info. I think that moving forward we will put in as groups of 2 instead of groups of 3, I still need someone to share the hunt with, but it sounds like the more people you put in with the less your chances of drawing will be.

Thanks again for the info and best of luck to everyone this year.
