I am relocating to Lakeview in the next month and know that the deadline is approaching. I have to deer points and was just curoius if anyone had any suggestions on which units may be worth putting in for. Deer, Elk, and antelope info would be great. I am not looking for secret spots just some general info. This country is all new to me. Thanks!

Good luck in Lakeview, the highlight is that there is a Les Schwab store there. If you are a NR still 2 points probably won't get you a tag in that area until you are a resident. Numbers are down in SE and if you do a site search you will find that most Oregon guys will tell you that. It is pretty country and living there you should be able to do a little scouting and find yourself a good buck, good luck

What kind of hunting, rifle or sliver slinging? you can put in but I would just do point savers until you get residency. you can purchase over the counter tags for the High Cascades I believe still. So you may not have to waste your poinys. Also good luck with the speed goat, I've been putting in for 12 yrs now with no luck.

Thnks, not very encouraging, but atleast I have my work cut out for me. It looks likee I'll try the point saver route and hunt in WA this year. Any Elk tags worth drawing? Also, I rifle hunt, but am willing to use any weapon. Thanks Again,

Ok Congrats on moving to Lakeview.

You will either hate the town or love the town that is how it always is. You are in Prime country down there. So here is what i would reccomend.

Beautiful country and a blast to live in there are a few tags you maybe able to draw with 2 points that are above average. If you absolutely want to go deer hunting with a rifle this year you would draw the Interstate Unit living in Lakeview it is all the country there west of Lakeview odds are you will not slap a real big buck. But it is a chance to go hunting if you can wait 1 more year. I would reccommend that you hold out for one of the better tags over there IE North Warner, South Juniper or Beattys Butte for 1 year. All are good hunt just the herds are down but if you do the work you can make usually find a good buck.

Antelope pick anyone you want 174A, 174B, 170A, 170B, ant of the desert antelope hunts are good but you will have to get struck in the ass by lightning to get drawn.

Elk you are on your own not a big fan of Oregon Elk but a decent elk would be the Beulah Either tag or some of the others. Sheep Hart Mtn N0.3

Good luck on your hunts and welcome to Oregon.

From your login name, you may also want to check into the cat hunting in NW Nevada, which is not too far away. Tags are over the counter, season is yearlong, and the quota never gets filled. Dogs are also allowed.

Thanks for the input. I might just go for the point option this year. I am unsure of the amount of time I can get off of my new Job. I really appreciate all the info. If anyone lives close and needs a helping hand in the hills PM me and I'll give you my number. I might have to find a hound hunter and tag along in Nevada I have always wanted to be on a hound hunt. My cat hunting consists of leather hounds. Thnks again,
WACAT

Maybe I'm deft but what is a leather hound. But please, kill as many cats, c-dogs, etc as you can in NW Nv. and SE Ore.

Do you hunt chukar? You are in prime country. The saying goes, "The first time you hunt chukar is for fun, after that it is for revenge." I'm a vengeful sort so I'm hooked.

In Washington we are not allowed to use hounds so we either have to call cats or chase them with boots. Yes I do chukar hunt, although I havn't done it a lot recently I am sure I will be doing some chukar chasing.

If you are looking for a good chucker dog let me know I know a good breeder close to you. I can put you in touch with them
