LAST EDITED ON May-19-06 AT 08:21AM (MST)[p]Very nice x3b buck congrats but the mount doesn,t look that great to me but maybe it,s the camera angle Devlin

Really nice buck. The ears look small to me and it has a blacktail look to it. Are there blacktail in that area, and if so that would be a huge blacktail. No matter what that is a really nice california buck.

that's a great looking buck. I didn't realize he was that high, the first time I saw a picture of him. You going back this year? I am still holding out for x5b.

I only have 1 point this year, so unless I get lucky in the random draw, probably won't be back for a few more years.

Awesome buck, awesome mount. I hunted that unit about 10 years ago. Didn't see any bucks like that. Had a chance at a small 3 pt. opening day that I passed on. What does he score? He should score pretty good. Congratulations.

LAST EDITED ON May-20-06 AT 00:53AM (MST)[p]Hog, Thats a great Kali buck. Hunted that unit archery last year. Good antler growth and lots of bucks to chase around but nothing like that. Were you in the wilderness? Easy draw w/bow.

This buck scored 173 6/8" gross. I wasn't in the wilderness area. A buddy of mine told me about this area, so I kind of have to keep it a secret, per his request. Only saw about 4 other hunters, and they all left on Sunday, killed this buck on Monday morning.

LAST EDITED ON May-22-06 AT 10:20AM (MST)[p]No offence man but I gotta agree with some of the others here, that's gotta be a blacktail cape, if not then that's a 30" muley pushing 190 B&C...

I know the area intimately, owned property there, guided and scouted it frequently for years, I killed a cross once in X-1 it was 24" wide and scored 173 and some change Sooooo...

LAST EDITED ON May-22-06 AT 12:04PM (MST)[p]Trust me, it's a Muley and a Muley cape. I shot this buck witin a mile from Nevada. He mounted the ears layed back a little, so from the angles in the pic, they look smaller. Here's an in the field pic, does it still look like a blacktail/Muley cross? I don't think so.

Manny, this buck is 28" wide.

I'll try one from another angle, this pic was taken from the far left side. You can see how the ear is layed back rather then straight out. Don't know why he mounted it that way. Either way, I think it turned out very good, and i'm very happy with it, and that's all that matters to me.

either way heck of a deer these days for down there, pic is very decieving though...thanks

Congratulations on a really great MULE deer! LOL!

Manny15 used to live in Kali, but then we had to boot him out, so he moved to Oregon. LOL! Just kidding Manny

Hey, that looks like the Darner buck!!! Or maybe the Carter buck, I dunno.......

Nice mount, Mel. Congratulations, well done.

Nice job on the buck Great mount too. Mel I'm hoping to hunt next door this year or next heading back for X5B really like that area.,

I like hunting X5b, I have shot two greta bucks from there. Where abouts do you hunt? If you get drawn let PM me and I can give you a couple of spots to check out. One of them got me a 30" 5x5. I put in for x5b every year but I am 1 point behind so, I am not holding my breath.

If either of you draw, Pm me. I didn't even put in for 5B this year but I spend 15-20 days a year out there chukar huntin and I've helped others so I know it pretty well.

HEY GUYS, I'M SITTING ON 4 POINTS....HOW MANY POINTS WILL IT TAKE TO GET INTO X3B OR X5B. IT WILL BE A ONE TIME SHOT FOR ME, NEVER HUNTED THE NORTH PART OF CALIF. BEFORE. LIKE TO TRY IT ONCE. THANKS, YD.

You could probaly draw it this year if you had put in for it. next year for sure if you didn't draw anything this year.

you could get 3B for sure next year. They alrady give out more tags than people put in for, you have to have max points. x5B will still take a few years. Have you seen some big bucks while you where chucker hunting? What was the biggest? I saw one a guy had shot the last time I hunted there that was at least 33" wide. My friend I was sith saw two that where at just as big coming off a ridge right on the Nevada boarder.

YD'

let me know if you get drawn for either, I've guided there a few time's, you otta consider X-2 also...seen some monster in there...

Time to put in with a top point holder. LOL I think got 3 pts But hope to draw this year, I feel lucky.

I usually see a dozen or so 26" to 28" bucks a year while chukar huntin. Some quality bucks and some spindly horned ones. Probably have seen 3 or 4 over 30" in the last 5 years. There are no guarentees in 5B I know the areas I would scout and where some of them go after the opening weekend pressure. Alot of the bucks I see are in Nov, after the season and when the rut is on.

Hey guys,

I drew an X3B tag this year with zero points!! Lucky me....but

I have never hunted this area before. I put in thinking that some family members would also get drawn and I could learn the area from them. Well, they didn't get drawn.

So now I am spending hours each day doing research on the internet trying to gain as much knowledge as possible. I'm looking at doing a scouting trip probably in late August or early September.

ANY advise/help/suggestions/offers is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do I sound desprate? :)

Thanks Paul. Is Monte a member here? I can send him a PM if he is. Otherwise, how would I go about getting a hold of him?

Thanks
- Rich

I hunted there about 10 years ago, we hunted the southern part of the zone, we saw some bucks. Got a decent 3x3, never saw anything bigger. I was a younger guy back then and not as patiant. They are there, you just have to look for them.

I think the town we hunted out of was Likely, its right off 395. take a trip up there and do some scouting.

Thanks for the number Brian. I'll touch base with him.

And thanks to everyone else as well for the input.
