Totally!!! I seen some awesome bucks up there last year and the year before that and before that. I hope to get my deer and elk tag this year. This will be my sons first hunt, should he draw out. Even my wife is appling this year. Its going to be awesome if the 3 of us all get drawn out! I havent been up there as of yet, but there is definitely a scout trip in the works!!
If any of you all are interested the Navajo fish and wildlife have posted the proclaimation for hunting season 2006/2007 on their web site. good luck to all and happy hunting!!!

Gotta nu 4x!

Im applying for a genral hunt at the end of october, and I also put in for a late archery tag. I drew the genral tag last year, saw some real good ones but couldnt connect. Ended up shooting a 4 1/2 year old 2x3 on the last day I was able to hunt.

This is my first year applying. I applied with a friend who lives in AZ. I believe we put in for 3,4,or 5 I can't remember. Those of you with experience on this hunt are these good units or am i just wasting my money? what can I excpect? Is there somewhere I can find a map of the units? Is there a better unit than the ones listed? Any help you can give I would appreciate, knowing what it is I am gettin myself into and being able to justify the extra cost for the tag would soothe the pocketbook.. thanks in advance

hey blast, wish you luck in the draw. 2 of the units you listed are good units. Lots of deer, lots of young bucks. I'd say unit 3 has a good majority of bucks. Its a big unit and if you know where to go you'll find a nice mature buck. Unit 4 has some good bucks too. Not familar with unit 5 (5a/5b). Mostly low land. If you going for the early archery tag then you may not want that unit. But 12 is the prime unit. Lots of luck getting draw there. Few roads there and lots of bucks! But you'd better plan on lots of hiking. well good luck. Happy hunting.

ps. If you need a map of the area
you can go to the navajo fish and wildlife
office and ask them for the unit your hunting
and they can dig you up an old forestry map.

I did a search for the navajo fish and wildlife, and the website I found said the regulations are coming soon.Maybe I was on the wrong site. does anyone have the web address? Thanks.

Thanks Needa, I am looking for just a general map of the units not real specific. I just want to see where each unit lies in relation to the nation. Is there such a map. I do believe it is unit 3 because I definately can not afford 12. I appreciate the info.

blast, there is a such a map.... its in the original hunting proclaimation. You need to go to the main office and get one or call them. They have them in different stores across the rez.
they may be able to tell you where you might be able to get one of even have one mailed to you not sure though. Worth giving it a shot.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-19-06 AT 09:54PM (MST)[p]Draw mid to end of July left over permits on sale Aug 11 -

I cant find any specific draw date

Dont know why anyone would hunt there hardly any animals.

Who is that handsome guy on the back page of the proclamations
bottom left corner?

Unit 3 is nice but not for the money they are getting now. Bucks tend to be crabby. I have seen some big wide deer but nothing that would score high.

Unit 12 is the Carrizzo Mtns. and it is WAY overpriced. THe genetics for these areas doesn't justify the demand. I keep thinking folks will figure it out and the tag prices will change and they have, just UP!

Well, I drew both tags that I put in for the genral rifle and the late archery hunt(in january). Now I just got to wait and hope the rain gods bless the area.

I didnt get any muley tags, and I put in for three I think

did get a Bull tag tho son got one too! still not as easy as it used to be to get a tag

wooo hooo I have a bull tag!

I didnt draw out this year. I didnt return my survey early enough last year (according to them!). But the wife drewout for archery deer and rifle elk. My son too drew out an elk tag too. I have to wait for the left over tags.
Well good luck too all!

My cousin who is half navajo drew the two deer tags I did and a archery elk tag. I would have been happy just drawing one, but its going to be alot of fun going twice this year. I cant wait.
