Diamond Fork Poachers Caught

Many of you probably remember the report from last year of several deer being shot in Diamond Fork Canyon, east of Spanish Fork, in Utah County.

It looks like a reward posted by sportsmens' groups led to the guilty parties being turned in.

I for one think it's great that these guys were caught. Hopefully it will deter others from performing similar wantonly distructive, malicious, and stupid acts in the future. I also hope they are punished to the full extent of the law.

Here is the link to the article and the article itself:

Accused slayers of 13 deer charged with wildlife-law felonies

The Salt Lake Tribune
Salt Lake Tribune

Criminal charges have been filed against two Spanish Fork men accused of poaching 13 deer in Utah County. Cory Ray Brown, 25, and Kevin Jay Cloward, 24, were each charged Thursday in 4th District Court in Provo with one count of wanton destruction of wildlife, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison, and one count of firing a gun from a vehicle or roadway, a class B misdemeanor. On April 10, 2005, conservation agents found 13 dead deer in Diamond Fork Canyon. Hunting groups offered a $4,500 reward, and the publicity led to the suspects, said Vic Layton, a conservation officer for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. - Nate Carlisle

Unbelievable... I figured when it happened that it was probably some young kids (teenagers) that just didn't understand the impact of what they'd done. These guys were definately old enough to know better (24 and 25). I'm glad they caught them and I hope they throw the book at them.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-02-06 AT 12:34PM (MST)[p]Wow. Comparing it to DK. Thats original. This is a newpaper article. It has nothing to do with DK. Yet you still have to say something. Yeah, I'm sure their friends will stick up for them. Was DK charged with a felony? I doubt it. Did he shoot 13 deer? I doubt that. Not only that, but nobody is slamming anybody. The names were provided in the article. NOT by the person posting. If your going to compare things, it needs to be apples to apples, not apples to oranges.

Im glad these bastages were finally caught!! THe only issue I have, is that they were only charged with ONE count of Wanton Destruction of Wildlife, when they POACHED THIRTEEN. Should've been 13 counts, not just 1. Then when they Plea Bargain the case....like they usually do, these buttheads will get a stiffer sentence.

Does anyone on here know these two knuckle-heads?? I know SPanish Fork isnt as small as it used to be, but Im curious if anyone knows these people personally???

Colville,

I think you may be on to something!! :)

Thanks to Sremim for his response, which I agree with. It's too bad this thread has to be hijacked by those who would stir the pot by bringing up issues unrelated to this one.

I merely provided a link and a copy of an article posted in one of Utah's largest newspapers. Obviously, the Tribune doesn't want to be sued for providing names of individuals when there isn't enough evidence to support the individuals being charged.

Thus, if they felt confident enough to provide the names of the offenders, then I certainly felt good enough about providing the link. In doing so, and by thus spreading the word, I'm hoping that more and more would-be poachers get scared enough to not even try it.

Less poachers equals more deer for those who would go about harvesting the deer legally.

Prince,

I couldn't agree with you more, hopefully they throw the book at these stink'n butt-holes and make an example out of them and leave a few muleys on the mountain to the guy who does it legally.

Thanks for the informative post, Prince. It great to see the reward system having an effect.

Need to get more of this info up on the www so everyone can stay informed.

When you shine a light into the corners, the cockroaches scatter.

Keep 'em looking over their shoulders.

...there's way too much of this poaching crap going on.
