Wyo. draw results?

I think it is July 10th for Mule Deer results. What unit you put in for?

I think the words out thanks to Garth!
some times I wish those services never existed and all those guyS were in a OTHER line of work like an DIAPER SERVICE... Now an every other year draw is going to take 5-7 yrs to draw! since
99' I hunted it 4 times!

LAST EDITED ON Jun-26-06 AT 05:59PM (MST)[p]I hear you, hard to keep secrets when they are worth so much money to some people. Thats why I keep my mouth shut.

Should have the results by July 5th. Wyoming used to post results a couple of days before the 4th but I dont know anymore. I hear next year they are going to online apps and you will only have to pony up $6 up front. Talk about draw odds going in the tank...

Really? I hadn't heard that. That is going to blow!

hunt applications services in Fallon NV won the bid!
Their OK I never had any problems with them and I feel lucky with them(lol)and they always answer the phone year round!
bad is PLASTIC MONEY........AND A 35% increase in apps!

That's all true but for those of us with a point from this year all the newbee's will be behind us, until we draw then after that we're in trouble. the way many of these states are going it's kind of a draw and get out deal unless you just like to donate money to them.

Huntindude is right. The way the system is set up now, a lot of the tough to draw areas will basically become once in a lifetime. Your odds of drawing a random tag will be less than 1%.

I'm with you guys. Once in a lifetime and get out and/or apply to "lesser" units. I just hate that they don't make you send in the tag fee to apply....almost as bad as accepting plastic!

More and more of these good hunts are becoming more like once in a lifetime hunts. It's ok for us "old guys" but it is very sad for the young guys. It's the growing population. I don't know why we need more people in the world? Just think what an Ariz. Strip tag will be worth in 200 years! On the subject of Garths influence I know many people who use it to know where not to put in.

well..... we will know soon enough! I feel the drawing been over for a while and they are double checking before mailing tag and posting on line!!I hope FRIDAY so I can change plans and go to Rocksprings scout and fish!
I REALLY WANT THIS TAG BAD!!!
good luck

Wyoming keeps increasing the tags in units where the deer and elk herds are suffering.

Im sure a few more of you will draw 102 this year because once again they increased the amount of tags in a unit that should have a couple hundred less then it already has.

Whats worse is the elk units, they doubled the amount of bull tags in 100, and increased them by a 1/3rd in most the other "trophy" units.

I guess they are managing the units for numbers rather than trophy quality, but even with that said if they are just managing them for numbers they are still screwing it all up....

I'm glad I didn't put in for 102, I found a better draw hunt...well until they increase the tags in that unit too....

If any of you draw 102 i'll share what info I have, I've seen some great bucks while i've been fighting fire there this summer...

EL

thanks EL!
Where in 102 has there been a burn this year?
Their was only 70 non res buck tags avil, whats the increase?

Enesto,
How are the elk doing this summer in 100? I did a quick drive through the area on June 12th. I'm planning a good scouting trip during the weekend of Aug. 4-6. Will give you a call when I get to Rock Springs.

As for the quota in 100, the non-residents really didn't see much of a jump in tags. In 2005 the tag numbers for the regular and special draws were 13 and 8, repectively. For 2006, they were 14 regular and 10 special tags. The residents will see a jump of 50 tags from last year when the quota was 126. Total bull tags for 2006 are 200, up from 147 last year. I have to agree with you, though. To whack 200 bulls in one season, in this unit, is too many.

Hopefully you'll be one of the lucky residents, EL.

They just posted on the G&F website that the results will be available on July 5th at 9:00 AM MST.

Area 102 was increased by 50 tags total.G&F claims an average age of 5&1/2 yrs on the bucks there.I don't see it,personally(I spend LOTS of time here,as it is out my back door). That means for every yearling, there is a 9&1/2 yr old??!!Please!!!Area 100 elk was increased by 40 bull tags, while cow tags were decreased.G&F claims 80 bulls per 100 cows?!?!Again,PLEASE!!!!Those of you who draw these tags better enjoy the hunt.Wyo G&F will destroy the quality in these units very quickly. They don't manage for age class, they manage for OPPORTUNITY.I've gone through this with them countless times. They are all about the MONEY-at the expense of the resource.

Well stated nontypical. It'sd just a continuing wreck. I can't imagine how G&F can keep a straight face when they present some of the numbers they have. I have offered to go with them, even pay for the plane to see how the heck they get those numbers. It's just unbelievable.

Quality is not a word that's in the vocabulary. Too bad.

What's most frustrating is they don't really want to hear about it.I could go on and on.It wasn't that long ago our hunting was awesome. If it keeps going in the direction it is now,Wyoming will be looked down upon by other states that are starting to "get it".

AMEN NONTYPICAL.... You said it best! I was trying to say that lol!.

Dwalton,
I've been seeing a couple big bulls in 100 in a place that not too many people figure theres elk (even in 100). Im in the process of getting a new digital camera so hopefully I'll have some pics before then. I'll be more than willing to show you around when you come up in August cuz theres a snowballs chance in hell im going to get that tag....

BTW, a few years ago there were only 80 bull tags for unit 100. I believe that number was about right for the amount of bulls in the unit. They've slowly increased the tags to where theres now 200 bull tags. All those bull tags in a unit where there is easy access and not as much cover for the bulls to hide. It still is pretty amazing though to see how those bulls can disappear in that brush.....

The management on unit 102 for deer is the biggest joke the WYGFD is trying to pull on us. There once was a time where you could go out during the winter time and see quite a few older class bucks. Hell not even older class. I remember when I used to go out and see over 20-30 bucks with spreads over 25" in a single day. Now I go out and if I see a buck wider than its ears I hurry and pull out the camera.

The WYGFD is a joke.

I don't want to damper any of your guys hopes for the unit, but I do not want you to be disappointed as I am every day I go out there.

EL

EL,

Save one of those bulls for yourself....this might be your lucky year! Hope you get a tag. Thanks for the help!

yh
ill probably draw 102 this year and waste my point. it sounded like a good plan because i drew a unit 30 elk tag there this year its the same general area as 102. now im hopeing i dont draw.

I would still take a area 102 deer tag any day!(I know a bit about 102) over a book cliff deer tag(which I never hunted)!
Brown that elk tag is a killer tag and I would not even hope of drawing anything else in the area and would only have that bull on my mine(guide would help alot unless you have a friend and scout it for a few days)!
EL has 102 burned again?

rackmaster what im going to do is arive in unit 30 about sept 20 , bow hunt till rifle season opens on oct. 1 if i dont have a good bull down by then. im thinking i should do ok. what do you think of that plan?LB

yes
the elknut of the videos and his son are going to come over for a few days . but he hasnt seen the area either. what kind of help are you thinking i need?

Rackmaster,
Theres only been a few small fires in 102 this year. There was a 100 acre fire down by the archery range and also a 50 acre fire at the head of little bitter creek. We've had a lot of 1 acre fires down in Clay Basin and Red Creek also.

what about a extremely obssesive personallity when it comes to elk hunting and a 19 year lucky streak on unguided forest service land bulls. none of them i got out whole all packframe and or horses. ill be packing that along with me . im really looking foreward to this hunt. it will be the best elk area ive hunted. i only hunted one other elk le area it was oregons eagle cap wilderness. this hunt is really going to put the pressure on me in idaho bow season. but if i dont get a bull here i wont have to stress to much with the wyo. hunt. all i can do is hunt as hard as i can if that isnt good enough ... at least i gave it 100% .. LB

mdbrown,
You'll do fine! Don't worry too much! Just remember, when you are hunting unit 30 if you are seeing aspens or pines, your in the wrong part of the unit :D.

Arrow one in the cedars!

I'd take a 102 deer tag any day. A friend knows a guy who works at this dealership said a number of those larger deer came out of 102. I think a few came out of 101. Some even reference Little Mountain as the location where they were shot. Not to hard to figure out...
