How is your pre-hunt condiditon going? I know everyone is spending hours in the gymn and running the hills!

Seriously, hope everyone who drew coveted tags is working out and getting in shape. I'm trying to be consistent in my workouts. At 47 it's hard to get in shape and stay in shape. What does everyone do to make the time to work out consistently?
I try to get up early and also to get the family involved in some walking/running in the evenings.

I've hunted Colorado for 10 years and its always been hard. Last spring I moved here and after a year its finally more bearable just getting aroung in the high country. I work out but I have to say, just being here helps more than anything. I was in better physical shape when I moved up than I am now but I can get around better now than I could then.
Work out all you can, and move to higher elevation every chance you get...

I've always been bad at keeping up a workout regimen. However, fear is a great motivator, so I try to register for one or two tough September road races that involve hills and use the fear of embarrasing myself as a motivator to hit the pavement. This year, I've picked out a 9 miler (4.5 miles up and 4.5 miles down). I can see the summit from my office window, so it keeps me motivated.

I also think crosstraining is key. I try to mix in a lot of time on my mountain bike. In addition to cutting down on the pounding you get from running, it's also a hell of a lot of fun when you finish a big climb with a downhill blast!

My Wife and I are sprocket heads, we ride mountain bikes three to four times a week. Last Saturday it was 15 miles out to Indian Point on the Grand Mesa on singletrack. Great views. sunday was spent putting in 25 miles on Glade Park double and singletrack. Working at altitudes of over 9000' puts a bit more lung in the workout.

Hit the eliptical in the garage with one of my favorite mule deer videos in, followed by a short run. Nothing like a little motivation to get out of bed instead of hitting snooze.

Walk'in & mtn. biking, less pizza and beer!!
Body is pretty tight for 56, but, these old eastcoast lungs are still gonna suffer, no matter what i do!!! :-(

First of all, my diet is better. Not eating like a teenager these days. For workouts: Stair stepper a couple days a week (including a good video), Walking everyday. (I have several routes which include various types of hills). Stadium bleacher twice a week. Sqeeze in a hike once a week or so. Bench press and jump roping a couple of days a week. Lots of streching. It takes a bit longer to get in shape at 47 but I've made great strides so far. Keep your eye on the prize!
