nm unit 12

My son drew a unit 12 nm tag I was wondering if any of you guys out there had hunted it and how you did or anybody knows the area and where would be a good place to start looking any help would be great thanks

There is quite a bit of private ground and reservation ground in 12. I would start down by Fence Lake, its very huntable and there is quite a bit of public ground there. The deer densities are low all across the unit.

Hunted in there for Elk a couple years back, seen 2 shooter bucks.

I hunted it last year on the Muzz hunt in September. It was tough. I glassed alot from dark to dark and hiked quite a bit. I wasn't even finding decent sign or sheds. I saw two little 3x3's and 5 does and fawns over 7 days. I did glass up a toad lion and over 100 elk, some big bulls too. I just couldn't find a good buck. I hunted by Fence Lake and around Red Hill and along the Az line. Most deer I found were on the Az line. It seemed like all the locals I talked to seemed to think that the deer herd was down and 13 had alot better prospects. Good luck
