There is three mountains on the henrys all conected the one you will hunt will probably be the roaded one as the other two dont have any roads on them but if you wanted to be fair to yourself you would look on the non roaded mountains as the rumor is that is where you will find the big bucks

I had a good freind draw this tag a few years ago for a muzzaloader and we scouted the area out a few times and we did not really look on the non roaded areas as there is so many bucks on the roaded area and I wish we would have but it was to fun to see all the bucks driving down the roads and looking up and down into canyons you will have the same problam I am shure, we seen most of the bucks on the west side but that is not to say that there was not much on the east side just a lot of deer on the west side I think Archery would be a ball you will see 50 or more bucks a day

I would also try and keep a eye out in the low country it is much harder to hunt but that is why the BIG bucks are still there I would say the better bucks in the roaded area would be 180 class but there not around every corner most of the deer are in the upper 160 class and there is a lot of them you will see lots of deer and it will be a really fun hunt

When you get down there stop at the Sandy Ranch and see if they can give you some pointers they saved are hide one night when I hit a rock and blew 2 tires out and only had one spare They are some of the best people you could meet

Once again try and look into some of the harder areas as that is where you will most likely will find the BIGGER bucks in but once you get down there you will see why we never went anywhere other then the roaded areas just to many deer to leave alone

GOOD LUCK

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

Thanks for The info. I have went down twice with the intent on hiking into some of the other mountains (pennel and the other one) but you are right its hard to not just glass from road because of all the nice bucks you see from the road. I dont mind putting in the leg work but man, the country is a lot bigger than it looks from the main road and its hard to know were to start. I was just kinda wondering on some canyons or ridges I could look in on the other two mountains just places to start hiking from would be nice. Were is the Sandy Ranch at I will definetly stop in. Yes I to got flat down there also an old timer who use to hunt it often told me to always have two extra tires. Im hoping for a chance at something with a 190 frame atleast and from what I have heard that is a realiastic expectation. Thanks again.

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

Man, you are one lucky dog. A chance at a 40 incher and a 270 plus non-typical. Good luck.

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

40 incher and a 270 plus non typical now we are talkin!! Have you seen these bucks this year? or are you just refering to past hunts and videos? I hunted the Puansigaunt in 1996 and set My standards a little to high. no regrets but I did come home empty handed after hunting all 3 seasons as a dedicated hunter. Ive killed a 192 typical, 180 class typical, and few in 170's (gross) I would really like to take a my biggest yet this year, maybe a non-typical, but I would like him to have atleast a 190 frame typical or non-typical( thats just kinda the stantard ive set)and I know there is a good chance to see that quality of bucks down there. I already have this year. But the terrain is very rocky and steep bowhunting and trying to kill a certain buck is gonna be tough, not to mention letting a 180 to 190 class buck walk. I have the first 10 days of and the last 5 days of hte hunt off so ill have a little time .

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

Micah, can't help you with the sweet spots, but the advice about two spares is valid. I've spent more than one night on those dang mountains when I've blown two tires.

Take two spares! And a sat phone when your third tire blows....dang shale rock, anyway.

There are some bruiser bucks down there, I'd look where you wouldn't expect to find deer. Having not spent time there the last couple years, tho, I couldn't tell you anything else with much confidence!

I am excited for you, tho, what a great tag to have!

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

You really need to go down and scout, but send me a PM i was down last week scouting and might be able to help a little.

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

Im New to the Forum so Im not sure if this is a pm or how to do it exactly, but Ive been down twice and Im going down this weekend. Ive seen a few shooter's already but no GIANTS . I live close and plan on going down atleast 2 or 3 more times, plus I have two days prior to the hunt. I realize this is probly a once in a lifetime tag and I want to make the best of it.

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

On the henry's sometimes you need to get away from the places where everyone is looking. You will see a ton of bucks in those places, and even some very good bucks, that anyone in there normal right mind would never pass up. But just like anywhere else getting away from the roads, and hunters can be in your case Very Beneficial. To find that big nontypical you'll have to do some work.

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

Start by covering up the BLING BLING wheels so you don't scare off the deer.

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

Micah, have you figured out the pm? Once you do I will send you some valid info.

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

Micah just look at the guy name you want to pm and then go to the second Icon and click on it and send a Private Message (PM).

RE: archery tag for the Henry Mtns

jorka I would rather drive a junki old toyota with mexi-crome painted wheels and a 30inch four point in the in the back, than a 40,000 dollar rig whith a head hunter sticker of a giant buck on the back window and 2piont in the back.
Jorka 2 thumbs up as always bro.
