Here is a current map of fires burning in the Breaks. It could bet even worse if the current high temps, low humidity and howling winds persist.

I"m Praying!! Its supposed to be 99-105 over in W. MT the next 4-5 days! Ouch. That Lodgepole fire could have some significant impact on my elk hunting!!!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-19-06 AT 01:55PM (MST)[p]looks like there might be some great forage for next years wildlife. Just hope there's no loss of life or major property damage to homes etc. It may cause a few guys to loose some grass too. I wounder where them cattle are headed?

I was told yesterday that most of the fires in and around fort peck and the CMR were under control but two of the larger one's on the south side had the potential to really blow up.

thanks for the map nemont!

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

now watch me draw that 700 Antelope tag now... O well, guess I can go fishing if the speedgoats are moved to other areas...always wanted to catch a big laker..

It's dry in Nebraska as well the town of Valentine lost 20 homes to a fire that came up the canyons to the north of town. Deer and antelope are moving out of the hills looking for anything green to eat. Hope we all get some rain we average 20 inches a year and at this point we have 5 inches ranchers are moving cattle out as little grass remains.

Just heard on the radio that there were about 65 fires reported in ND this week so far. It's awfully dry in a lot of ND too.
