I am new to posting on mm, but have enjoyed all of the pictures and stories for a long while now.I struck out big time this year in all of my draws and was thinking of a late archery hunt in unit 39. I would appicate any info that you guys might have about that unit. I don't wont your honey holes just a general direction to start looking. I am going down to scout in a month or so and wanted to start planing my trip. Thank you in advanced for any info.

39 is a great unit, I've hunted it my whole life. It has some of the highest peaks in Idaho and some of the most remote places in the state, and also some of the best foothill sagebrush hunting around as well. If you are looking at the archery hunt late in 39, I would hunt the eastern side of the unit. The deer winter all across that range from Lucky Peak resivor to Mountain Home and only a portion of that is in the boundary of the hunt. Those foothill canyons can be deceiving and you need to be prepared to hunt hard and work to find the bigger bucks. Wolves has also been spotted in the eastern part of 39.

"AREA CLOSURE: That portion of Unit 39 within Ada
County AND that portion of Unit 39 within the following
boundary: Beginning at the intersection of state highway
21 and the Middle Fork Boise River road (Forest Rd
268), east on Forest Rd 268 to Cottonwood Creek-Thorn
Creek Road (Forest Rd 377), north and west on Forest
Road 377 to State Highway 21, south and west on Highway
21 to the point of beginning is CLOSED."
