My son and I drew tags in AZ 12b west. I have hunted two units nearby but could use help for this hunt. Any help would be much appreciated and a PM would be fine.

Thanks

MTB:

Had this tag in 2004, when it was late, and just drew again on the 10/27-11/05 hunt this year. Great hunt with lots of deer, and you and your son will really enjoy it. PM me and I will fill in some gaps, except for the location of the buck I will be hunting :)

hi
i hunted 12bwest last year.it was a fun hunt , however i didnt pull the trigger. i hunted it all season every day . i ended up seeing 263 does , 22 bucks.i had the saftey off once..... but the buck just wasnt big enough. i hunted mostly the west side of the buckskin mtns. the east side in the clearings were crawling with people. and deer, one clearing i hunted at daylight one morning there was 11 people watching it. that was the last time i hunted over there. i hunted mostly aroung buck pasture canyon. i mostly still hunted through the cedars because it was impossable to glass in that area. i saw 2 dead bucks that were in the 28 inch class, both shot in the clearings. last year it got better every day as the season went on. like i said i had a good hunt, i was watching 4 bucks the last day at dark all within range. i didnt put in for the unit this year. i know there is big bucks there on the early hunt , i just couldnt find one. MDB

Thanks MDB. I will definetly scout those areas. Maybe we can just be in the right place for one of those bigger ones.
Also how big was big enough?

i was looking for a 26 incher or so. i really put out allot effort , maybe it was my hunting style , i know it wasnt for lack of trying .i felt i did everything possable to find a good buck. i did best in the afternoons when the wind would blow so the deer couldnt hear me. the rocks/sand there is really loud to walk on. i could only find a few areas to glass. i saw quite a few deer glassing though. how big of bucks are you and your son looking for? how old is he? has he got other deer? Larry

Larry,

My son had an early rifle bull tag last year and shot a 290 6x6. He has yet to shoot a deer but is very excited since this will be the first time that both of us will have a tag on the same hunt. He is 22. A good size 4x4 would be great. I would like to go with a 26 or better as well but I know that might be a challenge. I hope to get my son a chance at the best one we see.
I shot a 189 in 13B so I do have one good one on the wall.
I am sure with that all out effort not only did you have fun but you did everything you could to find one. Sometimes you just have to be in the right place at the right time. Did you get drawn this year for any hunts? If you did good luck!

yes im looking petty good tag wise this year. i drew a wyoming unit 30 elk, a wyoming 59 lope same unit same time as elk, a montana general deer and the usual home state idaho deer rifle and elk bow hunts. ill be busy. i might even through in an antelpoe bow hunt here also. it starts in mid august. i know there are good bucks in 12b the genetics on the 2 bucks i saw dead were great,Larry

Larry,
If you had a tag now would you buy an elk tag that the G&F are offering. Did you see any elk in 12b west while on the mule deer hunt?

Thanks,
Steve

I hunted their with my brothers in 2004, saw a lot of 24" 4 points, like the last person said, that hunt gets better each day your out there. We saw several nice bucks killed in the clearings, I saw a 2 point that was probably 25" tall and real, real heavy. Find the does and you will have a blast. Drove through 12 A and saw one of the nicest bucks that I have ever at a waterhole at 10:30 am with a doe the first day of the hunt. It was less than 200 yards to 12 b. Discouraging but a wonderfule experience.
