has anyone takin any good bucks from here or do they even exist anymore.also is it know for typical or non typical.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-01-06 AT 04:25AM (MST)[p]There used to a few (very few)decent bucks in the Eagletails we would see rutted up while looking for sheep. I didn't go over there last winter but I imagine a few are around. Hunt near the catchments and other water sources. Thats where I always saw the most deer sign. Remember there isn't a ton of deer in that country. The biggest one we saw might have been 165-170 or so, not bad for a desert muley living in that moonscape looking country out there.

Not wanting to sound negative but I hunted the northern end of the Eagletails for three days in Jan. (archery) and didnt see a deer. Found some tracks but that was it. I watched the ag. fields adjacent to the mountains like lots of people say to but saw nothing. The only tracks I found were around water catchments and in some of the washes, didnt find any around fields even though there was irrigation water in some ditches around crops.

I agree with FAB. Dont want to sound negative, but Ive hunted unit 41 a couple two or three times in the past 15-20 years and it is just depressing. I have yet to see a buck bigger than a fork-in-horn. I believe it is too dry for anything to survive out there. The drought isn't helping matters any.

I dont know where you are traveling from, but I would just save your money that you are going to spend on gas and buy an archery tag to hunt somewhere you might have a chance of seeing a deer at all!

Good luck....

If I was you I would go to Vekol wash and head south about 5 miles from I-8. Seen several nice Bucks that would book in this area last year and its not far from the Casino. Good Luck. P.S. play the flaming 7's.

i live here in the unit for a couple of months now and have seen a few 20 to 25" 4 x 4's i was just hoping there were still a few giants left running the desert floor.

I hunted sheep in the Eagletails in 2004. I saw some real dandy bucks while sheep hunting. All of the large bucks I saw were typical. Do you have a Dec muzzleloader tag?

how did you do on your sheep hunt i have seen some very good rams this year. i would love to see a picture of it

I drew a Dec. muzzy tag, and would like to exchange any recent info on this unit as well, now or later after the rifle season (hunter1). I hunted last Jan. archery, saw some decent bucks but no monsters, all near water sources. Anyone with info or assistance, send me a pm.

i belive you are correct on that road being in 40a, the only complant i have so far since i have been scouting is the dam snakes seems everywere i decide to sit and set up to glass there is a freakin rattler under me. i have reduced the population by 14 now and will continue to do so. deer wise i am liking what i am seeing but it is not a hunt for those that thinks they dont have to leave a truck to take a deer i have been putting 3-5 miles on the boots to get away from the roads to locate them,

jasn I have some info for you on your muzzy tag! congrats on the draw. e mail me at madsheephunter@aol. By the way thanks for posting my pics back in Jan

A few of my friends hunt in the little horns. They have taken some great bucks in archery. Not much on score but they were 28-31 inch bucks. My exp. in 41 is that the bucks in Nov seem to be in the flats, and usually within two miles of water. We hunt 41 42 43 44 all the same way, get high and glass the mesquite thickets and flats, but you have to scout the water to find the bucks. Last year we took a 204, 183, and a 33" buck not to far from you!
