The draws are over and i have Zero tags for this fall.I'm scrambling trying to find a place to hunt. With my schedule i need something in mid Nov.One option is Colorado Cow tag ( not very excited about driving from California for a cow )the other is a Whitetail tag in Idaho panhandle area.So my question is has anyone hunted for Whitetail in Idaho? Not looking for anyones secret spots just hows the hunting up there in general. Is it crowded? Is there a lot of public land? I would not mind paying a reasonable tresspass fee if i needed to. Any info would be appreciated.

Panhandle whitetail seems to be a great option. My experience has been very few hunters, unlimited public land and quality bucks.

PM if you'd like some more info.

South Dakota West river(muley or any buck tag) is still open check out the South Dakota website.

Idaho units, 16A, 17,19,20 are open for both muleys and WT until Nov. 18. I may be hunting that area this year.

You can still get a region A deer license for Wyoming, which is a November season. There are both muleys and whitetails in the Black Hills. It gets pressure, but it can be a decent hunt. There may also be some 3rd season Colorado licenses left over, but I have not checked.

As deerhunter4885 said, the Selway units in Central Idaho (units 16A, 17, 19, 20) are open till Nov. 18th for both muleys and whities (any deer), and IMO it is a decent hunt. I'll be back up there hunting again this year. If you care to hunt elk at the same time, the elk season runs through Nov. 18th as well for any bull.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-01-06 AT 12:54PM (MST)[p]Jaxon,
I think the elk hunt you are talking about is a B tag. I called and they told me they are sold out but I think there are still some A tags available. That season is Oct. 1 through the 31st. I can't decide on whether or not I should buy an elk tag. Any thoughts?

LAST EDITED ON Aug-01-06 AT 01:36PM (MST)[p]My bad, yes, the elk tag is only open (B tag) from Sept 15-30th and then opens AGAIN from Nov. 1-18th. The A tag is open from Oct. 1-31st. I'm sorry, I didn't mean the elk tag runs through and is open the whole time. Sorry 'bout that. I was speaking of hunting in November up there. And it is sold out for non-res hunters so I appologize to oilcan for misleading you there as you are coming from Cali. Deer is still an option though and for DEER it is open from Sept. 15 - Nov. 18th straight through.

I hunted it last year for the first time and am going back this year if that tells you anything. If there are A tags still available I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up if that was going to be my "hunting trip for the year". If you are going to concentrate on the area up there for a hunt this year and you don't plan on any other areas for elk this year, I would pick one up as you could very well fill your tag. Are you coming from out of state too or are you a resident? I guess that would make a little bit of a difference. I'll send you a PM shortly.
