I have read some posts here about this place , I'm guessing its in Utah. What is the story on this place, preserve, a real island , fenced , private, what???

1-Its in Utah
2-Its an island in the Great Salt Lake
3-Its a State Park, which equals NO HUNTING
4-There are some HUGE deer out there

BUL_KRZY,

Funny thing is, that in my original message I had a #5 simliar to yours....I deleted it at the last second....trying to keep things "drama free". :)

Haha, we are all on the same page. I had something similar in mind as well, but pretty sure it would have been deleted immediately.

Here a few pics of bucks that have roamed the big island. As a side note, the buck in the 2nd to last pic, killed the buck in the last pic.

Thanks for the pics yelum - which buck killed which though? In both of the last two pics there are two bucks.

Wow, it is amazing what some age and some decent genetics can produce. I suspect that there are a lot of areas in Utah with good genetics, but they just never get the chance to be expressed. A lot of 190"+ bucks get shot as yearlings.

Couple more AI buck photos that I have shared before.

Thanks for all the replys. I had an idea and read through all the smack about the shed hunting but didn't know exactly what this island was about.
Great pictures and thanks for posting them...

Yelum....is that big ol' buck just bedded right there next to the one he just killed. Talk about cold blooded. :)

How did you guys get these pics. Can you go to this Island at any times other than during the shed hunting deal or do "they" lock it down??

Glad you all liked the pics. Thanks for the complements. The island is a state park and can be accessed via a 7+ mile causeway and a $9 entrance fee. It is open year round with hiking trails on most of the Northern end. Durning the shed hunt you were allowed to go anywhere, but all other times you must stay on trails or roads. These pictures are some of what I and friends have taken over the last 4 years. I have yet to get a good pic this year. There are buffalo, bighorn, antelope and deer. As well as coyote, fox, badger and bobcat. And a boatload of chukars. Throw in a few pheasants and the worlds largest concentration of misquitos and you have the island summed up. It may or may not be worth the trip out, depending on the day.

Muleslyr, The bedded buck is a great typical that is bigger and better each year. Last year he had a 200 inch frame. He is however not the one that killed the other buck.

Heres a few more critters from the island. The sheep and loper pics were taken by my friend Ryan. The last pic is the earlier posted buck after a Yote dinner.
