More deer killed by cars...

I think it's a shame that we spend our money and time trying to improve wildlife, and cars just run them over. . . I've seen THREE dead moose this year within 3 miles of my house, all killed by cars! It's a shame. I dont know what can be done, but it sure must be part of the managment scenerio. Cars have to be part of the take quota, and therefore, deer killed by cars are really taking from the hunting, or predator quota. What should be done? good question, how about banning cars?

BOBCAT?

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

I agree with TFinal there is alot more animals getting hit each year. I was reading in MDF the other day and there was a article in there about deer getting hit Something like Deer Xing or something. It said something like more deer are hit on the highway annually then hunters kill in one year.

Estimate is 10,000 deer/elk per year in Utah hit by cars with 90% mortality rate. USU.

Compare that with the 50 to 100 elk/deer per year estimated to be harvested by 20 to 30 wolves in the Uintas, Bookcliffs, etc.

Right there it is easy to see a F250 is a lot more deadly for game than a wolf pack.

"Right there it is easy to see a F250 is a lot more deadly for game than a wolf pack."

Well now you to have a fair comparison you have to look at the size of wolf packs and the state wide size of the F250s pack. Then you need to look at the ratio of kills: Numbers of game animals killed per wolf vs. number of game animals killed per F250. Realistically the average F250 kills relatively few animals over its operational life time vs. the wolf which will kill a signficant number over its life time. It would only be speculation, but it is questionable whether riding wolves to work would save any more animals than driving trucks.....

Well those are quite valid points.

Which is more dangerous, a wolf driving a F250 or a guy who has just poured hot coffee in his crotch while trying to use his GPS to pinpoint where he saw that 6 point last year?

Good thing Postum is usually just room temperature.

tfinal!!!

I'VE SAID FOR YEARS THE AMOUNT OF GAME RUN OVER BY VEHICLES WAS REDICULOUS!!!

THIS STATE OUGHT TO HAVE THEIR ASS KICKED FOR NOT DOING ANY GAME FENCING,TUNNELL CALVERTS & ETC!!!

MAYBE THIS STATE WILL WAKE THE HELL UP,NO NOT IN MY LIFETIME,JUST WHEN ITS TOO LATE!!!

IF WE OUTLAW F250'S,EVERYBODY THAT DON'T ALREADY HAVE ONE WILL START BUYING F350'S & F450'S!!!
