Paunsaugunt Scouting

I drew a rifle tag for the upcoming deer hunt (October 7th -17th) on the Paunsaugunt unit. I have been busy preparing for the hunt, and I have started my scouting. So far, I have seen some fairly nice deer. The deer numbers have not been real high, but we have seen some nice bucks. It will be a tough hunt but I am excited to see what happens. I would be interested in talking to other hunters who have done some scouting and want to compare notes. In particular, I would be interested in chatting with archery hunters since we will not be competing directly. Also, I am always interested in talking to people that have hunted the unit in the past. I thing to keep in mind, these deer migrate in early october regardless of the weather. I hunted it in 96 and was blown away when I was hunting these deer in a t-shirt and they were heading for the Arizona state line! Also find water in the low country there are some good resident deer in the low country

Micah is right! I would spend a whole lot of time scouting the high country now, because those deer won't be there in October...
