Wyoming Region W Tough Decisions

Hello All
Last year's archery season proved that Wyoming deer are smarter than this Texan!

This year we've drawn Region W and I'm trying to decide:
a. Come up Sept 1 and try again (and where)
b. Come up near Oct 1 and put the 270 to work (and where)
c. Come up neat Oct 15 for the opening of areas 101 and 102

I know your hunting secrets are, well, secret, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking foward to some cool Wyoming mornings...it hot down here!
Thanks

>A general region W tag isn't
>good in 101-102. Not
>sure why that is in
>your options.

Many thanks for the heads up...still learning that all the small print actually means something:) So, eliminate option "C."
Thanks again

You might still consider going with option C and hope that one of the big boys gets pushed from the limited quota areas into the general areas of region W. As was said before, a general region W tag is no good in 84, 101 and 102 but an 84, 101 and 102 tag is not valid in the rest of region W either. Just a thought...

Good luck,

Those big bucks are really tough to kill with a bow in that country . I'd opt for B, but I'd likey focus on the end of the season and hope for cold, wet weather. The deer will be much more visible and it might be your best chance for a monster. Plus, most of the hunters will bail out after the first three days of the season.

NverEnuf,

Option C is still no good. I belive that 101 and 102 open on the 15th, making them relatively "late season" tags (for Wyoming.) The general areas in region W adjacent to them will be closed by then. If I remember right, area 100 adjacent to 101/102 is only open for the first 7 days of October.

Hey Texan hunter, your in good company, I'm a Texas hunter as well. I've hunted Region W several times. Looking for a new hunting spot somewhere in region D. Must be a Oct 15 season. Where in Texas are you?

Thanks for the reply:)
Sorry I took so long to check your response...we are in the Austin area (San Marcos).

As it all turns out, even though we were drawn, we decided for reasons of a new job and financial restrictions that this would not be the best season for a hunt. It killed me! I've had to justify it in my head:)

1. Those draw fees are my cheerful contribution to the great state of Wyoming.
2. Less personal debt now means more hunts and wildlife management support in the future!:)
3. I'll just let that Region W buck get 1 year older. In my mind he's waiting for me:)

Thanks to all for informative replies. This is my first post with monstermuleys, and I was pleasantly surprised about the positivity in the community of mule deer aficionados!
