NDOW Seeks Clues on Deer Poaching Near Reno

Nevada game wardens are seeking any tips or information on a poached deer discovered in the Reno area on Friday in the hills east of Mogul near the Somersett development.

Game wardens responded to a citizen?s complaint and found a mule deer that had been shot with a shotgun and dumped off a two-track road sometime during the weekend of July 23 rd, according to Randy Lusetti, a game warden investigating the case. The deer?s antlers had been sawed off, and very little meat had been taken leaving almost the entire animal to rot.

?This is the exact type of case game wardens need the public?s help with the most, because there is very little physical evidence at this crime scene,? said Cameron Waithman, game warden captain at the Nevada Department of Wildlife. ?We really want to catch the criminals that stole Nevada?s resources by poaching and wasting this animal.?

Anyone with information on the poaching can contact Operation Game Thief (OGT) at (800) 992-3030. OGT is offering a $500 reward for information leading to apprehension of the suspects who perpetrated this crime, and callers can remain anonymous.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is the state agency responsible for the restoration, protection and management of fish and wildlife resources, and the promotion of boating safety on Nevada?s waters. Wildlife offices are located in Las Vegas, Henderson, Winnemucca, Fallon, Elko, and Reno. For more information, contact the agency web site at www.ndow.org.

It is this kind of behavior that really gets me mad. We put all that money into protecting wildlife and the programs that go towards wildlife habitat, and here we got some inconsiderate punk that just goes out and kills the animal for the antlers. Is there no justice in this world?

That reward for info is too low, make it 5,000 and someone will start talking and then they can go after the worthless POS that did it.

I agree with Brian...$500 is hardly going to entice the criminally-associated to "bus" an acquaintance.

Up that to $5 grand and his "friends" will be coming out of the woodwork serving his nutz on a platter.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-10-06 AT 10:46AM (MST)[p]In the new book that is out now called Public Land Mulies by David Long he has cases of poachers for various states in the back. Anyone know WHO the person is that was busted for the Granite Mountain Buck near Gerlach, NV back in 1996??
Send me a PM.

Brian

Nevada should offer a limited entry tag for the conviction of a poacher like Utah does it. Forget the $5000. reward. A hot tag would be all it took.
