just wondering how the bowhunters are doing in 06 unit. i used to live in elko and i finally drew a rifle tag this year. any info on what a guy should be expecting to see ? i am not looking for areas, just how the horns are this year. i have heard it is the best there has been in a few years. my "scout" has been busy hunting elk on a depradation tag. thanks for any info

I hope you can find a place to hunt. There's been some huge fires this year. I don't have any friends hunting Area 6 this year and I have'nt made it out that way in a while, so I can't help on the question of horn growth. The gas prices are just to high for me so I've been scouting close to home. I've seen some very big bucks locally, so hopefully it will be a good year all over Nevada.

The good news is that the horn growth this year is awesome. The bad news is the fires have destroyed a lot of good country. Should make for an interesting rifle season with people rubbing elbows more than usual. I do know of a 190" buck taken during archery but had a co-worker go for 1 week and only had the opportunity to stalk 1 buck. I think the deer are very skittish because of all the traffic related to the fires.

thanks for the info. i was afraid the fires were going to make close quarters for everyone. i am actually going to hunt the first few days with my bow and then switch if i have to. hopefully my honey holes haven't turned to ashes.
