I was just going through photos from our elk hunts this year and was reminiscing. We took lots of photos of bull that my wife passed. I came across this bull and looking back I'm wondering what she was thinking passing up this bull. I figured you guys like to look at elk as much as I do so here you go.

I have quite a few more but for some reason this one just caught my eye. All the bulls are great and I think some may be better.

guess this is why I will never kill a 400. Aint no way I could ever pass a bull like this. Call me stupid I just shoot em as I see em lol.

I would find it hard to pass this bull. I guess if I had seen much larger bulls right before the hunt I might, but I usually don't back up my "hold out" talk too well :)

Every day, It's hard to shoot a big bull if you shoot the first 330-340 bull.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-10 AT 10:47AM (MST)[p]I would guess this bull is around 330 class bull. I would pass on some LE hunts in UT and AZ. Most hunts and units he would be a shooter. He is for sure a shooter with most hunters. Most hunters have not shot a 6 point bull.

Very pretty, even bull. I would give him 330-340 and would drop the hammer! All depends on the unit and state! I sure like the looks of him though!

then there was this guy. We had him nearly every day at well under 100 yards. I think we have more than enough close video of him and am pretty sure his beams are between 57" and 60". This was a solid bull but when he looked at us his shape was ugly and we couldn't bring ourselves to even consider shooting him.

Last day of the hunt we coulda taken him at 20 yards.

.."I would pass on some LE hunts in UT and AZ."..

I'm interested if the Central Manti late season hunt you would consider him passer or a taker ?

I really should have addressed this to all responding that qualified by "depends on Unit & State".

What do you all think for the 'Central Manti -Utah' (in case there are other Manti units in other States)

Late season hunt in 2 weeks.

Thanks

dude, from what I've seen on the san juan alone I would consider shooting that bull for sure. The juan was nearly impossible to come up with even 370 bulls this year. seemed there were a few bulls over 380 and lots under 350 but hardly nothing between 350 and 380. From what I've heard there used to be lots of 370 bulls on the juan but they just arent there anymore.

You better shoot that bull on the Manti late hunt. Big bulls like any that you have pictured can be hard to find on Manti during the late hunt.

Maybe the early hunt, during the rut, I would pass on him for the first 2-3 days. But, if I hadn't taken one by then and saw him again, well then . . . BOOM!!

I'd shoot any of them, probably any unit in utah depending on what I was seeing. But all I have killed are spikes.

Well I'd shoot at them lol.

I really like that busted bull, in fact, I really liked your busted Dutton bull too. I think it adds character and gives him a story. My LE bull this year has a third that is busted in half, I am leaving it but would get it fixed if it was as busted as yours was, especially with footage of how he looked before.......I shot the first bull that made me shake this year.... I would probably shoot any of the ones you posted!

I like the way that bull looks. What dont you like about him???

LAST EDITED ON Nov-01-10 AT 11:07PM (MST)[p]Thats a pretty nice bull and there would have to be a monster bull in the area that I has recently seen alive and knew I had a decent chance at him, before I'd ever pass on this one.

Should of killed him.. he is awesome. Not many bulls curve up at the end of their main beams. He's unique and would of been awesome hanging on the wall.

It would depend on what I knew was in the area that was bigger and how many of them there were. In most places I hunt those pictured above are among the biggest available so I would be shooting if offered a good chance. I guess I've not had the chance to be spoiled with opportunity on great units where 330 is considered too small to get excited about. It must be good hunting where you guys were at. By the way what did you get after passing?

You my friend need some serious help, first with your EYE doc, then with your judging ability's. Better yet, stop hunting and leave a tag for somebody who would actually know what to do with it! Maybe you should take up photography and during hunting season just stay home and look at your photos.
