That is a great looking bull! I bet he is one of the biggest taken this year on an open bull unit. Congrats!!!

That is a great looking bull, lots of color and character in those antlers. Job well done.

rackman- not even close to the largest bull killed on a public land, any bull hunt in Utah this year. Great bull nonetheless.

That is an awesome bull even in a LE hunt with a smokepole none the less!!! His body size looks large too. Hope he was close to the road or your horses were thee up just outta sight.:) Congrats

Great bull Chris! Would love to hear the story when you get a minute. Long time no speak - good to see your mug behind that big bull CONGRATS!! - Paul Grant (BUL_KRZY)

sorry for the delay here is the story on this bull. I have generally enjoyed the archery hunt but this year I decided to coach my sons football team. As a result, my hunting days were limited or non-existent but it was a price I was willing to pay. I decided that I would do the muzzle hunt since I knew it wasn't going to interrupt football and hoped the hunting gods would be on my side this year because of the sacrifice in hunting time I gave up to coach my son. I have to admit there was some good and bad this year in terms of hunting. I stopped doing the dedicated hunter this year and had a muzzle deer tag. I hunted a couple of days for deer and passed on some decent bucks and missed a nice 26" 4X4. Fortunatley, I was hunting with my buddy and after I shot at the buck and missed my buddy put one in him and dropped him. I was happy that he got the deer but mad at myself for blowing an opportunity on a great buck. Anyway, I was hoping the elk hunt would be my pay back for my sacrifice for football and my missed opportunities on the deer hunt. In the days coming up to the hunt, I told my brothers and friends that I was getting a bull no matter what. I just had that feeling that you get when you know its going to work out. I do marathons/triathlons partially so I can hike like a goat in the hills and get more opportunities than the average joe. I have to admit that I work my butt off and have had several chances at good bucks and bulls over the years, but never have killed any massive trophies only okay animals. On opening day of the muzzle hunt I woke up and that feeling came again and I said to my hunting partner, "I'm getting one today". We set off really early in the morning to get to our spot. I cruised up the mountain and got to an area that I thought might have some elk in it. I could hear elk running around making all kinds of noise so I threw off my pack and dropped to the ground to get prepared for a shot. I couldn't see the elk very good because it was still a little dark. There was noise coming from every direction but as I looked below me, I saw the back end of elk running through the trees. I thought I blew it and was frustrated. It wasn't more than a minute later that a bull came running by and stopped and looked right at me broadside. In a split second, I fired and waited for smack and never heard a thing. The bull spun around and ran off like nothing happened. I didn't have time to range him and thought "how did I miss". I decided to wait for my hunting partner to show up and then I would go look for him. I must have waited 20 minutes or so which seemed like 20 hours. I couldn't stand it anymore so I thought I would go and check for blood. I walked down to where the bull was standing when I shot and saw blood and a lot of it. I couldn't believe it. Within 5 minutes of first light I had shot a bull. I started following the blood and within 100 yds i found him piled up in a bush. I walked up to him and the adrenaline was rushing like a river. I had worked so hard and had many chances over the years but this time it all seemed too easy and way too lucky! I was so happy and all alone. I didn't scream for joy, I just sat down in amazement and took a big giant breath of air as if I had just conquered the world. As I sat there next to this awesome animal, It gave me the chance to reflect on my years of hunting. It was then I realized how much this elk really meant to me. After all, this was the area I grew up hunting. My dad started taking me in these hills when I was 7. It gave me a chance to remember all the hunting stories my dad & uncles told about the area. Most of my uncles have since passed away and my dad is not able to hike the hills anymore due to his age. My family doesn't hunt up there anymore and it had been years since I had spent much time up there. I realized how much I have missed it. I loved being up there camping and being around the campfire with my dad, brothers, and uncles listening to their hunting stories. I was grateful that in that moment I was able to enjoy what had just happened but also have time to reflect on where my passion for hunting and the outdoors had all started. The bull is a 7X6 with a broken G6 on the right side. It was not fun getting him out, in fact, I sprained my ankle in the process. Thank goodness for an amazing band of brothers that I didn't know before hand, they helped me get myself and the elk off the mountain. I owe them big time!! to all of you who have that dream of walking up to a big elk you shot and what it must feel like! it's everything you can imagine and more! Don't give up there are animals out there with a little hard work and luck one will be yours

Awesome job man. As a fellow marathoner/triathlete, I too enjoy being able to march right up the hills - it makes things so much more fun! But you should be proud in giving up a little hunting to coach your boy's team - that will mean the world to him. Good job.

I'll trade ya my buck for your bull. Great job friend. Wish I could have been there to watch it go down. How's the ankle? Up for some chuckars yet? I'll even pack your birds cause I still owe you a pack out i think. Fair Trade?

Congrats brother on a great bull!! You won't find many that hunt higher, steeper and harder than you. Certainly deserving of this great bull. I just wish I could have been there.

Between you and dblekicker, I'm not sure who is the bigger mountain goat but both of you deserve the success from this year.

Glad you got it done where it all began for us as kids. Nice job!! Look forward to seeing it in the cabin..........
