Well I got up there to my spot at about 1:00 pm the day before elk season opened. I hit the trail to do a quick hunt for a buck. 6 little bucks later I shot a big little buck quite a ways from camp. He was a 3 point meat buck. He was the first kill with my new Weatherby 30/06. One shot at 100 yards dropped him like a rock. By the time I got back to camp I was wasted tired. It was sweet. I got up early the next morning and hunted all day hard. Saw nothing but deer and turkey. Lots and lots of freakin turkey. Watching them on the hillside was like watching a carcass infested with maggots. Everything moves. Except that Id rather be watching the turkeys any day.

So repeat this 6 days in a row. Where the heck are the elk? In that 6 days I did see one cow elk and a dang big bull moose which surprised the heck out of me because Id never seen moose in this part of the state. Finally on day 7 I struck gold. I was walking down this particular canyon where my nephew had shot at a good bull a few days prior when I jumped a dozen cows, a spike, and a 5x6 that I shot. He jumped up last at 150 yards so I shot once and he rolled down the hill then to my surprise he got up and took off running. Now there is a bunch of cottonwood trees between he and I but I shoot at him twice through the trees and miss both times. Finally he comes out of the trees and I shoot once more and drop him for good. I was pumped as heck, very happy. I gutted him out and was walking back up the canyon an hour and a half later when I see elk come around the corner toward me at 300 yards. I sit down against the hillside and wait. They are spooked pretty bad and go running by me at 100 yards broadside stopping and running, stopping and running. There was a total of about 50 cows trailed by a raghorn 5 point then behind him was one hellacious big bull. I about wet my pants. He was at least 1 1/2 times bigger than the bull I had just killed. When I say big I mean he was BIGGGG. Dang was he big. Ive got goosebumps right now just thinking about him. I was still real happy with mine though. If mine and that huge bull were standing side by side I still would have shot mine because he will be much better eating. If you buy that Ive got some ocean front property in Arizona Ill sell you. It was a great year. Cant wait for next time!

And on a side note, do you guys think that rack would score over 300 just out of curiosity?

Thats a cool looking bull!

Looks like a good year for you! That is a great bull. I would think he is around 300.

Nice work for sure.

Way to whack em and stack em! That bull will be closer to 300 than you might think! Let us know! Congrats!!!

Cograts on both the bull and deer!! Your bull might push over 300, but just barely. He has good width, and decent mains, and his swords are better then average, how long are they? Everything else is pretty average for a 5-6 year old bull.

Again nice work!!

Nice Bull, I really like the width he has on that 5x6 frame.
