COLORADO UNIT 21

LAST EDITED ON Aug-30-06 AT 10:09PM (MST)[p]I just returned from archery hunting out there and I don't think you will have any problem finding bucks. If you want to PM me I will tell you what I found, however I am assuming your hunt is the late hunt and the deer won't be in the same areas that I found them. The buck I shot was by no means the biggest deer I saw but it is a decent buck for a bow. It scored just under 150 gross(147-148). It has great front forks as many of the deer out there do. Don't expect a very wide buck--most mature bucks are 22"-26" but they are VERY tall and there are many with deep tines. I also noticed that they are heavy horned. (my buck has 5" bases) I think it will be a hunt you will have a great time on. GOOD LUCK!

Very nice buck, thanks for sharing your photo. Now let's hear the story!

Hey, nice deer period. Any info you can supply would be great. I'm going out there the third week in Sept.to learn my way around a bit and do some spotting. I'll PM Thanks

I have hunted 22 for years and have been very lucky. I have never gone home empty handed from that great area. But they are drilling the hell out of the entire western slope. The exact location that I took a nice 4X4 Two years ago now is a drilling pad. Let me know what you find on your sept trip. I will be in unit 22 that third season.I usually hunt close to the unit boundry of 21 and 22. The rut is usually just getting started. The area is dry so find some H2O and some does and you will most likely find some good bucks. I have also had some great luck slipping through the small pine pockets on warm afternoons. Good luck, you have a great tag. Starman
