First hello, now down to business. I am planning a diy elk archery heft hunt. This plan is still in its infancy. I know I wanna archery hunt and I no I need until 2012 to acquire necessary gear skill and contacts. One of first things I wanna iron out is the where. I wanted to goto idaho originally and have read alot of bad things regarding wolves. So now I am leaning towards colorado. I am not afraid to hike but at the sametime I am an eastern boy who may not fully understand what a hike really is. So where is suggested, simple state suggestion would be fine. Next I don't want to be guided I would rather not score and do it myself but I wanna be safe, with that said what is needed to be safe, a packer? And what do they all do and how expensive? Any suggestions on necessary gear to aquire over the next 600 days. Thanks in advance and also I am not afraid to make friends with anyone here that's from out west, let's hunt!

jayson2984 I sent ya a pm

Hey Utah400Elk sorry I just sent you a PM too. On accident whoops.. Thought I clicked on jayson2984 PM Box. LOL

LAST EDITED ON Nov-22-10 AT 10:29PM (MST)[p]don't worry a lot of eastern boys do just fine in the high mountains, I suggest you get a prefernce point for elk in Wyoming, lots of nice country to choose from and a fishing licence to boot.

Just wanna say thanks to all. I have received alot of pms and am very excited. This trip may come quicker at this rate.
