On the TV shows, has anybody noticed that when a kid shoots their first buck they don't get real excited? Man, when I shot my first buck I couldnt contain myself. Do you think that their parents or mentors aren't pumping them up enough and letting them know just how important that deer is to them for the rest of their hunting days? They're going to remember that hunt for the rest of their lives like it was yesterday. I 've seen very few kids on TV get excited. It's a little depressing.

Most of the deer i see killed on TV, especially by kids are out of blinds... you sit there bored till something walks by and "shoot it". I remember my first deer... climbing up out of a canyon shaking from exhaustion and there was a spike 50 yards away... It took me at least a minute to get it in the crosshairs and take a shot.

My kids first deer will be like that, no sitting there bored waiting for something to walk past.

Who knows what is going on off camera though? Maybe the kid did several back flips that they edited...I remember being excited but the real rush of accomplishment came later as there was time to reflect and share with others.

You don't edit out the back flips. If it's a kids first deer, you can bet that they're looking for the kids reaction, otherwise there's no point in filming it. Scott/couesbitten

I agree with couesbitten- you'd think the producer wants as much excitement as possible to show the viewer just how great the hunt was and that this kid is now hooked on hunting. Now that I think about it, it seems like all the shows I've seen where it features a kid taking their first buck is a whitetail hunt. Makes sense that all the hunting is done out of a blind. They need to make a show that features a kid taking his/her first mule deer. That would be neat. I know my kids will be stoked because I've talked about it with them a lot. About what a great accomplishment it is and how they will be hooked after taking that first big game animal-whatever it may be. When my daughter turns 12 in 3 years, she's heading to Wyoming with me and my Dad. Her first big game animal will probably be an antelope. I can't wait! I wish she was going with us this year.

THEM ONES THAT DON'T GET EXCITED AREN'T MADE FOR HUNTING !!

THERE THE ONES THAT PLAY VIDEO GAMES !!!

WHEN I SHOT MY FIRST BUCK IT WAS THE BEST BUCKFEVER OUT THERE!!

THE ONLY HUNTERCAMERON WONDERING IF THE YOUNG KIDS WILL KEEP HUNTING ALIVE!!! IN THE NEXT 70 YEARS !!

Keith Warren still reacts like it was his first animal when he drops game. Must be suprised that he got it when not in a blind.

I can remember when I shot my first buck it was ##### HOUSE LUCK!! I'd missed 2 before cause I was so nervous. But the one I got I made damn sure he was dead and not getting up and running off. I was 12 and popped him with a 25-20. 7 times.

My older sister turned 50 last year and decided this winter she wanted to start hunting. This spring I called in four jakes for her at the same time. I had them wound up tight. I kept hammering at them and all 4 birds gobbling constantly. They must have gobbled over 100 times. I looked at her and the gun barrell was doing circles the size of a basketball. She tried to shoot twice with the safety was still on. When she got that squared away she shot all three rounds finally hitting one on the last shot. When we were standing over the bird she was so excited she was laughing and crying at the same time. She yelled out "Oh my god I pissed my pants". Now that is being excited. She now is hooked. She is bowhunting elk today with a friend and has planned an antelope hunt for a few of us next month. I think we created a monster.

Howdy all,
Last year my 12 year old son shot his first big game animal, a California X9C High Sierra Mule Deer 5x5. It's almost a year later and he still hasn't come down out of the clouds. Talking with the local meat cutters, his buck is the biggest anyone has seen in many years. The day before I took a respectable 30" buck in the same spot. Good luck to all this season.
