I am scheduled to hunt 3rd season in unit 17 for elk on private land with an OTC license. The rancher called me today and offered me a free deer voucher for the same season. It would cost me the license of course $300 plus an extra $500 to the rancher to make it a deer/elk combo. Is it worth it? Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

on original ??? - 4th season is better.

On what you actually posted:

"The rancher called me today and offered me a free deer voucher for the same season."

Sure sounds like the "free" deer voucher is costing you $500. Am I missing something here?

MM,
His normal elk hunts are only $2,000. His deer/elk combo hunts are $2,800. Instead of charging me $800, he will only charge me 500. The voucher is free. If I would have drawn a deer license myself and bought an OTC elk myself, originally I would have paid $2800. I just have to decide whether I want to hunt deer during this years 3rd hunt, or wait until next years fourth season. So totally, it would be $800 extra this year or cost me 1900 (hunt and lic) next year. Hope that cleared it up. Let me know what you think. Thanks for repsonding.
