Anyone know how the weather has been in the Snowy Range? Is it dry up on the mountains? I'm counting down the days till I head for WY. Started to pack some gear tonight. Good luck to everyone and have a safe and productive hunt. I'm hoping to improve on last year. I may also spend a day or two in the Sierra Madre.

the last month was a bit better than july, but its still pretty dry. fire bans still in effect.

Tim,

It's still really dry, but better than it was earlier in the year. I went over and bow hunted a bit last weekend. Saw some decent bucks but it was way too dry and windless for a good stalk on a bedded muley. No success. Maybe we'll get some moisture and wind before September is over and the stalking conditions will be better.

Good luck on your hunt. Keep me posted.

Thanks ICMDEER. I know you'll wack a big one before it is all said and done. Did you check out the honey hole?

had a good soaking rain here in laramie yesterday, and i've heard several people say some wet snow fell up high. things have cooled a bunch, hopefully it will stay on the cool and wet side. i think the fire ban will probably be gone by oct 1st.

The fire ban is gone, I was up there with some friends over labor day and the ranger said it had been lifted the Wed. before labor day weekend.

I was in the Sierra Madres from Friday through Sunday last week and the rain never stopped, even hailed for awhile. The weather was dreadful as we tried hunting up high but the fog was so thick we moved down in elevation. Everything is green up there and the drought definately has not effected the mountain areas in the Sierra Madres. The bulls were bugling, ecspecially on Sunday when the storm began to move out. We had a bull bugling on Saturday that was in a meadow and could't have been more than 100 yards away but we never saw him becuase the fog was so thick. We also saw some very nice mule deer north of the forest towards RAwlins, unfortunately they were on private property. Velvet is just beginning to come off. These bucks had velvet hanging off everywhere on their antlers. Probably were in the 150 class bucks.

They are talking about snow above 8000 starting maybe friday the 15th and through saturday. Looks like the temps are going to drop pretty good.

I just had a guy e-mail me a pic from a week ago from medicene bow pass and it did not look like there was much snow on the peaks this year.

Thanks for all the information. I plan to be there Oct 1. and I would sure like to catch up with one of those muleys. Good luck in all your hunting.

Tim
