Heres a few pics from my early season BC high country muley hunt. I shot my buck on the 2nd of september and got him about a 10-20 minute walk from camp. Saw a lot of game including moose, sheep, deer, and wolves. Definetely some good memories from this trip!

This is an average bull from what we saw, we did see one
monster that wouldnt come out of the trees for a picture

This is my buddy Terry's buck, the photo was taken a few days before we finally caught up to him and were able to put him on the ground.

After we had the buck down we quarted and deboned him and then hiked down into the valley of the moose where there was a small glacial stream. We put the meat in garbage bags and in the cool water to chill. Then we headed out moose shed hunting and managed to find 18-19 sheds at over 2000m in elevation!

awesome photos, especially the first one! I'm so pumped for my high country hunt I can hardly wait, its almost here though!

As if the thought of working this weekend wasn't already killing me. Now I have to see pics of you two in god's country with a couple of oustanding bucks. Congrats to both you!!! Looks like you earned them.

Matt,
I was wondering when you'd be back. Looks like you guys knocked down a couple of great early season bucks. Congrats to you and Terry. That's the way to get er done. The last few years you have really been kickin my ass. But you better look out come the late season. ;) That country looks awesome. You guys certainly lucked out with the great weather this year.

Steve,
We sure did luck out with the weather. When we pulled into our truck camp and woke up the next morning i looked at the mountains and you could still see all the fresh snow from the storm that had passed through a couple days previous. The weather was almost too hot and dry, the bucks were bedded early and wouldnt move much throughout the day. Even the nights were really warm and we only had a couple mornings where we woke to frost.
Its looking like im only going to have 3 courses at University this fall so im gonna have a lot of free time to see whos gonna be kicking whos a$$ this late season ;).

BCboy,

Will you please edit your post and remove the word ( a 3 letter word should go here but it is forbidden on this site). That

We were hunting just in the interior of BC so not too far north. I have heard that guys hunt the bucks in the Alpine as far north as Fort Nelson but i havent heard too much about it.

Was this an archery hunt. If so looks like some really open contry. Were the shots long. Nice bucks. Great looking place.

Beautiful looking country and congrats on the great looking deer. Gotta love the sheds as well.

Thanks for the comments guys!

The hunt was a rifle hunt (Opens Sept. 1st in some areas of BC). I shot the buck from 350 yards and shot from right near our camp just a few hours after we had it all set up. Funny how things work out sometimes!

Great buck Matt! Both of those are great early season bucks. Thanks for the pics.

Matt,
LMAO!!! I'm sure you'll give this old guy a good run for his money, but I'm thinkin' this year will be my year. :)

Bobcatbest,
If the word doesn't show ### then it can't be too bad now can it? Do you want us to go the the extremes as REALUPTIGHT and nuke people for using LMAO? Cause you know the RT way is LMBO :) :)

I hope these pics inspire all you MM members to take and share photos this season.
They really spice up the old yeller site!
Thanks for sharing.

Awesome job and concgrats to both! I love some added bonus on any hunt just like those sheds. I was wondering, it looks like you stripped the velvet off of your deer. Just courious why?

Awesome Pics.....Looks like a Great Trip, Congrats.
I don't really care which of you 2 kicks who's ars..I'm sure you'll both put me to shame;-)
I'm Not gonna suffer from the itchi trigger finger this year though...I've got an LEH Moose tag for my backyard in the pocket.
So holding out for a Great Buck will be a little easier:D

Later,

Just another Muley Nut ! :D

Wicked bucks man. Gongrats to you and terry. You did alot better than me, the smoke from washington kept me from getting any glassing done. Now lets see a monster non-typical in nov!!

When in doubt, floor it.

Thanks again guys.

I had to strip off the velvet because when we slid the buck down the really steep shale slide the velvet started peeling off. I also shot the buck on the 2nd of sept and didnt get out of the bush until the 7th so i dont think it would have lasted that long with the heat we had.

Great pics Matt!! That area is really working out for ya!

You're right about the weather. I'm heading to FSJ next week and I'm hopin it's not in the high 20's when I get there.

Good luck this season.

I'm hoping for an elk, but what I really want is to watch my old man put down a gagger bull moose. I've got a tuff job ahead of me if either my Pa or my Father-in-Law, or myself nuke an animal. The buggers are both a little over 60.

I was thinking of dragging my bow up there too. Every year we seem to see nice bow bucks from the Pine to the Buckinghorse.

Did your brother smoke a Ram yet?

I talked to Steve just before i left on my muley hunt. Turned out he didnt get to go after stones, they put him to work as soon as he got up there. So far he has guided to a nice 'bou and is currently guiding some elk hunters. Last I heard was that they had seen a huge elk but the guy couldnt get a shot off in time and the bull ended up getting away. Hunter change should be any day now so i should hear from him soon.

I think he may be going for whiteys/muleys on the outfitters ranch once the guiding season is over. But i think he should go for his LEH goat instead!

Lets just hope steve drops hog on the ranch after guiding! I would love to see him hammer a nice goat when he gets back here too. Show his big brother up(how many draws you had??:) ).

Kirby

When in doubt, floor it.

I hope he let's him go for a big buck on his place. A lot of guides are opting for the big Texas Tea money over in Alberta, so a big buck would difinitely be a nice perk to keep your Bro around!

Grizzly bet is still on dude!!!

LAST EDITED ON Sep-09-06 AT 02:14PM (MST)[p]BOYS BOYS BOYS ...........

You're forgettin that it is also going to be my year ....

Matt - You need to leave those 170-180 dinks alone and hold out for 200+ like BCboy and I. :)

Grin.........

I think BCboy and I will hold you to that statement you just made.

Glad to see a good chance that your tags will be uncut like ours the last couple years..........

LOL, Tough to say at this point. I think it would be really tough to pass on a November buck like last years, theres too many "What Ifs" involved with deer score. But one of my tags will be saved for a reg. 3 trash buck!

I like that confidence !!

I'm with you though on the "what if" bucks as well where scoring does not do them justice.

Awesome animal, awesome country!!! Thanks for taking all that time to take those pictures and sharing them with us. I want to be able to hunt country like that one day.

But now i am mad, because that was just your warm up buck!! You have 2 more muley tags to go!!!! I am packing my truck right now and moving up there.

Garrett

Garrett,
Im sure there is country just like this down in Wa. State. I would just put a little time in over summer and scout it out!

Im gonna wait until Mid october before i head out seriously after deer again. I figure i might try a 3-4 day quick backpack trip right back up into the alpine. Hopefully the snow will push some of the monsters that live in that country to the front edge of the mountains.
