Here's the buck I shot at 32 yards. Not a monster by no means, but I couldn't pass him up.

Gus and I watched this buck and his four buddies while they covered 2 miles of turf. We got ahead of the bucks after a 1/2 mile of playing hop-scotch, and we were finally able to get downwind of the bucks. As I crested the last hill, I spotted the velvet tips of the 175 class typical leading the bunch; 25 yards away. I motioned to Gus and Gus kept watch as I got ready. Gus pointed to where the non-typical was and I slowly stood. Both bucks had their heads down as I drew on the non-typical. I let the arrow fly and the buck lifted his head just as the arrow hit him. When I connected, Gus damn near knocked me off my feet with his high five. The buck topped the hill and we found him expiring on the other side.

Any guesses as to a score???

Thats an awesome buck, and i want to see what you think is a monster buck, that looks pretty darn big to me!!! Yes definitly what state?? Congrats!!

Garrett

What state was he shot in? And I beg to differ, about your comment saying that he is no monster! I would shot that buck over a straight 25-29 inch 4 point any day.. Your buck has character, and that matters more to me. I love shooting bucks with neat racks. But now if it was between your or a 30inch or more I would probably go for the bigger buck.

definately one of the better bucks shown here lately , and there have been some definate hogs harvested this year, I guess he is pushing 200, but honestly , who cares what he scores , he is one fine muley . congrats and thanks for sharing youre photos.

Way to go Brock. That is two great non-typicals in 2 years. I would guess that he would gross about 184. Did you take him in the zone 26-27 area.

Nice buck. I'd say he's got a 170 main frame with 20 inches of extras. A good 190 buck. With all those extras that is the kind of buck where score doesn't matter. Awesome archery buck.

WHo cares what he scores?? He is freakin awesome!! Id shoot that one in a millisecond, any day of the week, in any unit Ive ever hunted....

Congrats man! One of the nicest bucks that has been posted here for some time! Love the character!

The rest of the Story:

Mom and I spotted this buck the night before; over a mile away. I watched this fella and a wide 3 point making their way out of the hills. We stuck it out that night, but the bucks never made it closer than 3/4's of a mile. I got a bit of video that night and upon reviewing it, I figured this buck would top 190.

The next day.... Gus and I found the two boys out feeding right at day break. We watched the bucks until they started their move back into the hills. That's where the previously stated stalk comes into play. So, I walk up to the buck and I'm still thinking 185 total inches. We retrieved the truck and captured some great photos.

Now to the part of why I asked for some guesses of his score. I am by no means complaining, but I am pointing out a new learning curve. This bucks rack looked big; in comparison to his ears and body. He looked big compared to his four companions the morning I harvested him. What I did, was totally overestimate him. He was a super small bodied deer with 4 similar sized bucks. The buck grosses 176 3/8 and nets 172 2/8 inches. Total non-typical inches are 16 4/8. Would I change it???? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

Brock he is an awesome buck no matter what he scores. He has loads of character. It didn't look like he had the mass, spread or beam length to score up real high and he was missing brow tines all together which will usually add 4-6 inches to the score if they have them. I still would have put him in the low 180's from the photos. Congrats on a super buck, now you can concentrate on those whopper whitetails that the Edmonton area is known for.

Congratulations on a great buck. I'm not big on the score thing but I will say that he is going to look very nice on the wall.

Brock,
