I am going to get my bull done on a pedestal this year... I am a woodworker and wouldn't mind building a nice cabinet, but am also entertaining the idea of using natural materials... like an aspen log, or juniper.. or something with some rock and grass... Whatchya got?

I've killed a couple small 6's and always told myself I wouldn't get one mounted unless it was THE one... and I found him this year...

Thanks,Looking forward to seeing some good ideas that I might snipe or adapt!!!

Sorry man I don't have a pedestal mount picture. But that is a heck of a bull! looks like a Montana or Wyoming bull?

Wow what a great looking bull! I hope you get some great ideas for a pedestal.

Wow, what bull!!! Congrats on what could be your bull of a lifetime.

I'm doing a wall pedestal for my San Juan bull, but I won't have any pics for a month or so. Sorry!

Cheers,
Pete

Also, what part of the state did you get him in? Was it a draw only unit? Either way it's an incredible bull :)

Cheers,
Pete

Cool Mount!

Pete... he was a general season bull.... my 21st day of elk hunting this season....and my last day to hunt this season! When I left the house that morning I vowed to give it everything I had... and after 7 1/2 hours of pushing knee+ deep snow I finally found something to shoot at!

What do you mean by "wall pedestal"?

Here are a few of my Utah bull from last year. Still deciding what to do for the habitat on the base.

"That looks like that would hurt a little."

What would hurt a little? Man..if you are talking about my elk hunt... none of it hurt...it felt GOOOOOOOD!

Simply awesome bull man!
Here are some ideas for you, make sure you take a great bull like that to a great taxidermist man!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-21-10 AT 03:51PM (MST)[p]No example pictures, but you might do some searches for taxidermy work with reproduction snow or ice on the base.

That would really help with the memories if you could somehow incorporate some snow into the base.

Maybe a small pine tree on the side of the base loaded up with snow and the base being a reproduction rock with mounds of snow on and around it.

SWEET bull by the way!

I'm new at this game. Hope the pictures come through. Personally I don't like habitat pedestals because they're harder to keep clean.

Hey Ernie, I picked up one of these mounts yesterday for my bull.

I really like the look of the countoured back on a pedestal mount and the ability to move it around on the wall.

The cool part is you're not fixed flat against a wall like a traditional wall mount and you can easily slip it right down on a pedestal and visa versa some day if you decide to change things up.

They're a bit expensive, but I don't have room for a pedestal right now and I didn't want to be locked into the standard wall mount pose. This thing gives me the best of both worlds with the ability to change things up as I see fit.

If you do your pedestal with Sam's mounting plate/tube you can easily swap it around. I'd definitely look into that in any case for your pedestal regardless.

Congrats again on a toad of a bull!

It should look someth'n like this

One word of caution with the animialinmotion bracket...it may not have enough clearance for larger bull antlers! I really liked the idea and was going to have my bull mounted on 1 but had to return mine because the beams on my bull didn't have clearance. Unfortunately they charged me 1/2 the price restocking fee even though I never used it. I was 1 p..o..ed guy! Sometimes what comes around...goes around and I'll never buy another animalinmotion bracket again!

Love the wall pedistal mounts. Have 2 whitetails mounted that way and my do a bull that way when I can find one big enough to mount.

@jims

How far behind the end of the chest do your beams extend? The beams would have to go about 14" beyond the back of the mount point and/or be super wide with the long mounting arm to not work.

Just curious how wide and long your beams were and how far back were they tipped behind the mounting point?

Do you have a pic of your pedestal mount from the side? I'd really like to see if mine's going to work with it.

Cheers,
Pete

Pete, you have the exact same thoughts as I, as far as why to have a Ped done!

So mine is 50 wide outside and has 56 inch mains... will that not work for this mount system? I was actually thinking of haing a similar type bracket built....

Other considerations for a wall pedestal mount is mannikan size, direction of turn, and pose (upright vs downward sneak). Obviously a larger bodied mannikan will give you a little more antler clearance to the wall. The animals in motion deal was around 8 to 10" short for wall clearance. I was also VERY concerned whether the thin mounting brackets on the animals in motion would hold up such a large, heavy mount. I'm still flaming over the 50% restocking fee and hope everyone boycotts their product!

I really wanted a wall pedestal mount and finally gave up and went with the floor pedistal. You can email me and I'll send you the dimensions and pics.

Thanks Jims...

I have some ideas for a "fixed" wall ped mount until I have room for a floor ped...

I am going to get him mounted with a semi-sneak and a left turn I think... so head will be a little lower...

Go to http://www.rapaleetaxidermy.com/ and view the North American Gallery. Todd makes his own "rock" pedestals that look amazing as well as wood base, and wood base with scenery. There are examples of all of them in that gallery.

When I dropped my deer off a couple of weeks ago he had two impala pedestal mounts on walnut pedestals that looked great. The back of the pedestal had a door for storage. Apparently the owner was going to incorporate both pedestals into his wet bar somehow.

Those rocks are amazing! Does he make his own rocks or does he buy them already made and put the pieces together? I know there is a rock outfit somewhere that you can build your own rock pedestals, fireplaces, etc.

He does his own rocks. He had clients complain that the manufactured rocks did not look real so he started experimenting. They look even better in person.

Just a warning he's not cheap, but he does some of the best work I've seen especially on scenery. A shoulder mount elk is $1,350 for example. The pedestal mounts are quite a bit more expensive.

That is a great bull that you got, Conograts!!! here is a picture of the bull I put on a pedestal mount, it turned out good.

Here are a couple poor pictures of my ped mount...I've since added some moss to cover the gaps and the pics don't do the bull or the mount any justice...

First of all, Congrats on such an amazing harvest. I saw one made out of shed antlers that was pretty cool.

Wackem...that is a good idea, out of sheds!

Corey, that is a great looking mount!

Roado...Great looking mount too! But HOLY %&#^#*$.... how long are the G1's?????

Thanks! G1's are 23", G2's 20, G3's 20, G4's 22, G5's 15, 56" MB and 40" spread. AZ 2007 archery.

Hey weird question but where did you find the sagebrush for that mount? is it fake or preserved?

This is my bull I just got him put on a pedestal. It is actually the wall pedestal form that utahbigbull wants to do his elk on. I used to have it hanging on the wall but I decided I wanted it on a base so I threw one together.

Nice looking bull! How do you like that form? I should be getting mine back in a few weeks. I never thought of being able to put it on an actual floor pedistal.

I love the form it looks good with that little bit of leg on it. I chose this form just for the ability to put it on the wall or on a base it looks great eaither way.

Here's my wall pedestal at the Hunt Expo. There's taxidermy then there's Curtis! This thing is incredible. It's tough to get a good pic with all the windows behind him, but this gives the idea.
