Best Hunt Ever!!!

Have to say I just got back from the best hunt I've ever had. 7 days hunting with my 10 year old son and my dad. 3 generations hunting together. This was my son's first major trip and he was my main focus all week. He had a blast. The true essense of the hunt was brought home. It ain't about score. It's truely about the hunt. Sleeping in the walltent, cooking meals over a fire, the kids shooting cans with the .22, being in some of the best scenery the world has to offer, seeing the excitement in a boy's eyes when he kills his first grouse, sharing the fire with family and friends. Man that is what it is all about. We saw plenty of wildlife like whiteys, muleys, mountain goats, black bears, lynx and even managed to see a grizz. I left him up on the mountain for a future upcoming solo trip. ;)

My opening day whitey (5X4) taken on Sept 10th. It was a father and son team effort. Cody spotted it and I was able to put him on the ground. He's going to be some great vension. Cooked up his tenderloins over the fire and man was it ever good. :)

My dad's 6x4 dropper meatbuck taken the second morning of hunt. Dad has a serious heart condition and can't hunt like he used to so it sure was awesome to see him hammer this buck. This too, will be some great vension. The buck was plum full of blueberries. :) :)

I admire and respect you for taking you son. My oldest son was 3yrs old amnd I was working nights 1900-0700 I told him if he wante to go hunting the next morning he has to be ready when I got home at 0700. I openedd the doo at 0715 and my son was dressed and raring to go. I was so tired all I wanted to do was sleep but I kept my word and my dad my son and I went out. My son got to watch me shoot a nice 3x3 blacktail I will never forget that hunt. I'm leaving in 2 weeks for a draw hunt and I will be taking my boy boys for a couple days with my father (school). Congrats on your success and enjoying your family.

Ridge,
I never really thought about them eating blueberries either but both buckswere loaded with them and it seemed most of the critters we saw were eating them. It is an amazing crop this year. Even my son was getting in on the berry action. He was eating them like a bear. :)

Some Excellent times no doubt about it :)
I suspect He'll be Showing up Dad in No time;-)
Thanks for sharing.

Now that is what it is all about.
Thanks for sharing your hunt and snap shots of memories you shared that will last you a lifetime.

Jerry

BCBoy-all I can say is great job and congrats. And the fact that I'm a hunter for 1 reason....my Dad got me into it by the age of 10 or so. I'm sure going to give my son/daughter that opportunity, like you are.

Steve,

Awesome post! Looks like you had a great time with your family. The deer and grouse are just icing on the cake. I'm taking my 5 year old daughter out this coming weekend, and can't wait. Good luck the rest of the season.

Awsome, there was a time when I didn't understand how someone not doing the shooting could have just as much fun, but looks like you figured it out BC.

Beautiful country. Excellent pics

I'm hunting first season elk in colorado with my dad and son. Dad and I have cow tags. My son has an either sex tag and killed a cow the last time we were there so I'm hoping he gets his first bull. Nothings better than a hunt with three generations.

Hunted a late cow hunt in Ore, in 00 with my daughter and dad. We all tagged out but the experence was outstanding even if we hadn't.

Would be hard for me to pass up this experence for a quality, trophy hunt.

Nicest "Trophies" I have seen in a long time. This IS what it is all about. At least for me. I have mentioned before some of the most memorable "trophies" I have had the chance to be a part of taking wenet always the ones with the biggest antlers (or any antlers at all on some occasions) Thanks for sharing these.

life IS good

What a great trip. It don't get better than that, dude. Congrats on a great hunt!!

Looks like you had one heck of a trip Steve. Glad to see you're getting out and keeping the outdoor connection with the family. Thanks for sharing the photos and story!
