Aren't you the author of the infamous "buddy's buck from last night" thread?

Tell your "BUD" congrats...
Did you have a "BUD" to help celebrate...?
I see your friend in the picture, but wheres your "BUD"...?
Are the authorities aware of your "BUD" (hope not!)...
Is he a good "BUD"? (he doesn't look very green?)

O.K. seriously, that is one sweet buck, buck of a lifetime if you ask me, any story behind it? Thanks for posting, and I apologize if I have you confused with someone else. And I hope to see you posting a hog muley one day!

X2! Pun intended!

This is his biggest buck...in the way of points...he shot a 30" 4 point a couple years ago that is in the 190's.
I met up with him on a Friday and we headed into the area that we would be hunting. Saturday we woke up to snow and still snowing. It didnt clear up until 1:00 so to say the least we got a pretty late start. All we seen that day was a little 3 point and a couple does. Sunday we woke up and headed to a different area...on the way into the area we seen a few does here and there but no bucks. When we arrived at the valley we would be hunting we set up and he spotted a few does and dink bucks towards the head of the canyon. We were about to give up when we both said just a little further. Good thing we did...15 minutes later as we were walking through a small patch of burnt timber we kicked out 3 deer..he caught a quick glimpse of a rack and we kicked it in high gear. When we spotted the deer we had kicked out there were two groups (buddy only seen one) As I glassed the top group I noticed 3 small bucks, then the big boy turned his head and looked right at us...all it took from me was "there's your buck!" and 100 yards later and a 300 yard shot and the buck was down (or so we thought) When we got to where the buck should have been laying all that was there was a smear of blood (over a small cliff) The buck must have taken flying leasons prior to meeting us..haha..when we finally spotted him about 100 yards down the hill we noticed something wasnt right. On the way down to the buck we were looking for broken tines in the rocks...instead the buck had completely shattered his skull plate...but hadnt touched his antlers other than a few scrapes.
After a few pictures we started caping and boning the deer out.
Buck dead at 9:45 and back at the house around 7:00...not a bad day!

Shattered skull plate! Holly crap man! That must have been one heck of a tumble. Great buck! It was nice of you to go in and help your buddy out.

Thanks for the story.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-27-06 AT 10:16AM (MST)[p]Bummer about the skull plate. Great story-what state?

Yeah I hate that, 100 yard dash for the deer down a 90 yard trail right off a cliff.

Hey with a shattered skull he may go 35"?
