Thinking of doing the muzzy hunt. I should be able to draw it. Anyone on here hunt it last year? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

My dad had it in 2009. We saw a fair amount of big bulls, passed a good amount of 300-330 bulls. It can be a great hunt, or can be a very hard hunt. The big bulls were very call shy in 2009 and we had several unlucky breaks occur on stalks for nice bulls.

That is why it is called hunting. Dad was getting nervous and killed a 310 class bull on the second of the last evening.

I would suggest scouting hard, being up there a week early for the hunt and plan on hunting the whole 8 days if you want a 350 or better bull. The elk moved on us from the summer and we did not scout right before the hunt. Bad mistake. I couldn't because I was still in college at the time. Looking back, it was a mistake since we spent good hunting time trying to relocate bulls that had been pushed.

Still, it will be very hard to call in a herd bull after the rifle hunt. Be prepared to shoot as far as ethically/personally possible with a muzzy rifle. You will see big bulls, getting one is a different game.

This is one of the units I'm looking at for archery, could someone comment on how responsive they should be to calling during this season and any other factors like spike hunters that could affect the quality of this hunt. Not stuck on scores, but treating this as one of my OIL opportunities at a 340+ class bull. Thanks for any help.
