FREE ELK AND DEER TAGS!

THIS IS AN HONEST OFFER FOR FREE ELK AND DEER TAGS!

I have a very good friend that has agreed to give Elk and Deer tags out that are valid for his ground in New Mexico! These tags are free of charge! All you have to do is to have them validated by the state and they are legitimate tags. I cannot think of a better offer for guys wanting to have the opportunity at harvesting a 200"+ deer of 400"+ bull! The only stipulation is that because of his tags being ranch only tags you have to agree to hunt his ranch. The landowner charges a trespass fee to help pay for new fence, road repairs, loss of crops, taxes, new water wells that he has to drill because of the drought, repairs to his tractors among other things. There is also some profit for the landowner as well, his ranch is his business and we can all certainly understand a man wanting his business to generate some profit. Certainly a potential hunter would be willing to help him out with things like this since the tags are free. Included in this great offer is a chance to see some of the most scenic country in the Southwest, the sunrises and sunsets are spectacular to say the least! He will even allow you to stay in a little camp that he has set up on the place. He will also provide all meals, breakfast lunch and dinner for the entire 5 days of your stay. He will provide educational insight to the country you will be camped in, he will let you know what certain flowers are, what type of birds your looking at and will tell you about the history of the country. Its such a screaming deal I had to tell you guys about it!

The cost of your 5 day stay is a very reasonable $8000.00! It might seem high at first but when you throw in his complimentary gift of Elk and Deer tags you can see that it is a SCREAMING deal! He told me that he would even be willing to field dress, quarter and cape your deer and elk for you just because he appreciates anybody that comes to camp on his property. He is an awesome guy!

I know I'm not very good at math, never had much use for it, didn't really take more than I had to in college, so let me know where I screwed up please, but what is FREE about $8000? It reminds me of the FREE vacation I won, but they still wanted me to pay $400 for it.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-06 AT 04:29PM (MST)[p]I am sorry, sarcasm is hard for me to express when your writing a post on MM. I probably need to take lessons from D13er.

I have a friend that runs hunts for 8K a pop on his ranch in NM. I posted this because of all of the people out there complaining that private landowners are charging for the deer and elk on their property. I talked with my friend about this today and he simply replied "I aint charging 'em for the deer and the elk, I'm charging 'em for the access to my land, I paid for it, I work it and scratch out a livin' on it, I can charge whatever I damn well please to walk on it!" Pretty smart for an old country boy!

Sure glad landowners up here don't have that attitude yet, but I am sure it will come someday. My tag cost $38 and all the landowners want are for me to respect their land while I am on it and the odd one wants a package of sausage or two. The day I have to pay a fraction of that to hunt private land is the day I quit hunting. My family owns land as well and as long as guys ask permission and show respect they are allowed to hunt. That is the wonderful thing about not letting non-residents hunt here and keeping outfitting on the public land in the northern part of the province.

Saskman,

Thats AWESOME! Seriously, I wish it were still that way down here. The key word in your last post is RESPECT. Unfortunately, one can read some of the posts on here and realize that some folks feel like the landowners owe them something. I saw it first hand this past weekend, complete disregard for private land boundaries. I had never seen such a lack of respect for private land as I did this weekend. Three bulls were poached off my friends land. In 2 places the fences were cut, fortunately he did not have cattle in that pasture but it takes time and money to repair these things. If people had the respect that was around 20+ years ago it would not be as big of a deal but there is so much machoism and greed associated with hunting down here people will do ANYTHING to kill a big animal. Its simply disgustinng! Some of the same people that complain are some of the same people that ruined it, its very sad.

I am glad to hear that you have it so good up there, in reading your posts its clear that your making the most of your opportunities. I am sincerely happy for you that you have such tremendous opportunity up there to do what you love to do. I hope it never changes for you!

I KNOW HOW IT IS THERE JUST A DROUGHT EVERYYEAR !

I'LL GO HUNT THE ZUNI MNTS , OR MT TAYLOR WITH A NON RES TAG !!

Although I am not a landowner, I can see why they charge for hunts. Many of them went years without making much money and I
am sure, no one was willing to ever bail them out.

I read a letter to the editor a few years back. A hunter from cache valley (Utah) was complaining about duck hunting. He was saying everything was now posted and it wasn't fair....

A land owner replied: "I just got sick of people leaving my gates opened, cutting my fence..... I know many landowners are great people. Many have let me hunt there land for a modest fee, and sometimes for nothing.

My dad asked a rancher about his trespass fee for his elk hunt. It was hardly anything and after the hunt my dad asked if he owed him anything additional. The ranchers reply was "I am glad you got one" That was it. I think being respectful can go a long ways.

How much is your cut huntsonora? That was a pretty good sales pitch u threw out there "200 class bucks, 400 class bulls," is there documentation that this property holds animals like that?

Hunt? you're so used to seeing people pay that for a Mexican buck hunt it has desensitized to you how much is a lot of $, ain?t nothing free there?

Sounds like he's a politician to me. Free tags for $8k. Give me a freakin break. Post is almost hilarious really. He's not charging for elk and deer, just $8k to hunt them. LOL

Hey, I have a FREE TRUCK! 2005 GMC Sierra, low miles, the works...

$40k to transfer the title, but the truck is free.

Thanks for letting us in on this HOT BUY! :(

I have no problem with your friend charging for tags or I mean trespassing permits. But whats up with the way u are trying to sell these tags opps I ment trespassing permits. Thanks for all that space before u tell us the cost of the tags opps I did it again. Man this post really sounds like a Brittany Spears song sorry. Hey there is something in commen with Brit's chest and these "free tags" fake as could be. Now I suppose that u are going to argue that Brit's are real.

For those of you that truly feel that private landowners are the downfall of your hunting throughout the west, let me throw this out there. The Valles Calderra in New Mexico used to be a private ranch called the Baca Ranch. It was bought by the Federal Goverment in about 2000 or 2001 for $110 million dollars. A board of trustees has taken over the mgmt of what is now the Valles Calderra. In the last 5 years the number of cattle grazing days have gone down severly, the quality of the herd dynamic of elk has also gone down and the calving success ratio has gone down to 14% which is the lowest in the entire state of New Mexico! Back when the ranch was privately owned it was managed so well that the herd dynamic would allow many bulls over 350" to be harvested in what is now 3 different sub units. In 6A, which is the western slope, you will be extremely fortunate to find that would gross 320". When the Valles Calderra was known as the Baca Ranch and privately owned it was regarded as one of the premier elk hunting destinations in the entire western United States, today units 6C is often filled as a 4th choice.

My point is that when land is privately owned it is often managed much better by the people that know it, love it and live off it because private landowners take a lot of pride in their land. Often times the public ground around these ranches have much better hunting opportunities because of this sound management. The area around the Baca Ranch benefited from this type of mgmt, the land around the Jicarilla has benefited from their mgmt tactics as well.

Before people try to place blame on the the landowners or even the Game and Fish Depts for the lack of good hunting they should look directly in the mirror and ask themselves what they have done to improve the quality of the hunting. There are a lot of guys that refuse to go home empty handed and then ##### and moan during the off season about not having the opportunity to find and take a trophy quality animal. I guess its easier to use others as scapegoats than it is to come home empty handed. I see this as a greater detriment to our sport than any of the reasons they list. I feel its a greater detriment because it is something each and every one of us can control.

You people sound like you have never seen a sales pitch before. Whats wrong with that?

? Buy a new car and get a free cruise. ( do you think it's really free )
? Buy a new TV and get a free DVD player. ( do you think it was relly free)

I bet if the landowner let everyone hunt his land for free. They would blast every deer they could. Then people would complain that a landowner let them hunt but there were no deer.

If you don't like it, Don't go.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-04-06 AT 11:55PM (MST)[p]I have seen a lot of sales pitches and u agree with what I said Craig it's a great sales pitch. If huntsonora isn't making anything on it he should be.

Who was it that said written sarcasim doesn't work? Oh that guy was stupid anyway.

$8000 for both deer and elk hunt in NM including everything isn't a bad deal at all. There's lots of outfitters that charge $20K+ for an opportunity like this. And if you kill a 400+ bull there is a $5K+ trophy fee added to the cost!

Give the guy a break.

muleyman

WOW, even when you give the meaning of the word SARCASTIC people still don't get it. That's whats wrong with the world today, people are too uptight and need to relax a little and not be so dang serious all the time. I thought it was pretty good myself, hence the SARCASTIC reply after.

sremim,

You and I see eye to eye on a number of things, I knew you would get it. Great minds think alike! Have a good one bud...

Could u give me the meaning of SARCASTIC again still didn't get it wow those tags I mean tresspass permits are a scam. Ocean front property sounds good to me is it in CA, or AZ????????????????

Some people just have way too much money! If I pay $8000, I better get some trophy type animals even a little somethin from some of the local girls who are looking for a good time.... Paying an outrageous ammount of money to go do what you enjoy is kind of like prostitution... "I guess to each his own".... For me, I will just stick to what I am use to, Hunting for the love of the outdoors and the excitment of the hunt.

I'd take that $8k and go to Alaska or Canada before heading 50 miles south to the vast beautiful deserts of New Mexico.
I can't stand that state. No offense for those that live there as I used to live there as well.

Or just buy my OTC tag in Colo. for $40 and hang out in the colorado rockies at 10,000 feet of heaven with no one else around. Even if I don't fill my tag, who gives a shxt, I was able to see things that millions of other people will never see or experience.

"He told me that he would even be willing to field dress, quarter and cape your deer and elk for you just because he appreciates anybody that comes to camp on his property." For $8k he better appreciate you.

shxt, for $4K I'll field dress your elk and haul it out for you!

Sonora,
I don't really see why you felt the need to stir the pot on this. I knew quite a few people who hunted for meat when I grew up. They didn't necessarily shoot the first yearling that walked by, but they hunted hard, found something decent, and ate what they shot. They lived a little off of the land, they understood the land. They knew how to hunt. They had it right in my mind. I think for those of us in the west who saw hunting as a part of the culture miss it. Now we roll our eyes when a guy posts that he just shot a 193.6772 buck and it only cost 6k. Like he's some sort of legandary hunter. These jokers will never have anything over Teddy Riggs, a humble government trapper from Southern Utah, who knew his junk. They have no practical advice to offer typical hunters - except just spend more and you'll get bigger deer. Something doesn't add up when it costs more to shoot a "wild" animal than to raise a domestic cow. When good hunting becomes a function of how much you spend its no longer hunting, its no longer living off of the land, its not a way of life, its simply a vacation on a far off land. To many of us, hunting is more than a pretty-boy vacation.

Dam' Well Said!....thanks Manny

I wasnt stirring the pot, just posing another point of view. I agree with just about everything you just posted, I have never talked down about somebody that hunts for meat. I have never said a bad word about a person that shoots young bucks, if thats what they enjoy then more power to them. My gripe is with the people that feel that landowners owe them something and with the folks that ##### and moan about not ever seeing big deer then shooting a buck just to shoot one. If your dead set on going home with a deer and will plow a forked horn on the last day then I dont think you should be complaining about quality. I hate the fact that tags for big mule deer on private land are so damn expensive, I would love to be able to afford to hunt the best places year in and year out. Like the majority I cannot afford to do it. The difference is that I am not going to blame the landowners for getting what they can get for their hunts. I guided for years because I wanted to be able to "hunt" these ranches on somebody elses dime. I never pulled the trigger but always felt pride in watching another do so.

This may the greatest thread ever here on MM. I have never luaghed so much in my entire life . I thought original post was really quite funny, I think most of us had it figured out after a few sentences, but some of you guys really crack me up. Thanks for the good post Drum, and for you guys that are having hernias over this...

I guess I'mm going to have to give a sarcasm seminar to a few involved in this thread. PM drum to sign up. You know who you are that need it.

I agree with everything you just said. I guess the only reconciliation is that I get annoyed with people who are so obsessed with killing a big deer that they pay rediculous amounts of money and then think they are some kind of hero. I don't blame the landowners one bit. They should milk every dime they can get off of people's inflated egos. Take the ego out of hunting and we would see reasonble trespass fees all over.

I used to be one of those people who always complained about the hunt until I improved my methods of finding deer. I've also come to realize that some years are better than others regardless of management. I'm a lot more patient than I used to be and I'm optimistic that the Utah deer herd will continue to grow. I still haven't tagged a trophey since I started in 1989, but now that I see a lot more deer I really enjoy being out. I might even enjoy spotting more than hunting. Its hard to complain about a day of seeing a few nice bucks - even if you don't bring one home.

I live in Alberta, Canada and don't really relate well to the access problems you are having down there but i do have a question. I have heard a couple comments about the public land that is "landlocked" by private land and the access issues it provides. Are there any "flying with weapons" laws that would prevent you from hiring a helicopter to fly over the private lands and into the public land for a fraction of the cost of the "trespass" fees? It's not a solution but it may be an option.

Rolln.

Rolln,

That would be a good idea except the landowners would have a fit. You see, that would encroach on their private-public hunting grounds and is clearly not acceptable.

Just and example of how fine the line between sarcasm and being an ass can be........

How about one of those little lawn mower engine operated para gliders? I could see some hunter in one of those things about 80 feet off the ground cruising over million dollar homes, holding his rifle and trying to steer that thing! lol....

The sad thing to all this is that he will probably get it. Texas isnt that far away. 8 grand in Montana would put you on some of the sickest private land elk hunts in the world, fully guided with a trip to the oriental massage parlor in Billings thrown in. Just ask Chuck.
