Does anyone know anything about Colorado unit 20,9,19,191, 29
or 38? Those units still have tags available for 3rd & 4th season!
Are there any good bucks there? Is there much public ground? Any
help appreciated! Thanks! P.M me or email [email protected]

LAST EDITED ON Oct-09-06 AT 06:50AM (MST)[p]Lots of private land, lots of tree/bunny huggers, and way to many tags of the last few years due to them being CWD units, and the DOW's great idea of whiping out the herds to 'curtail' the spread... the result. not many deer around on what little public land there is, hence the reason there are tags left over.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-11-06 AT 08:04PM (MST)[p]I do most of my elk hunting in unit 19. I have also deer hunted some in unit 191. I have seen some decent bucks in 19 but they have all been "timber" bucks and I think would be near impossible to hunt. You might look at cherokee park swa in unit 191. There is a lower and middle unit. I think the upper unit is in another unit. Your best chance I think would be to get to the back of one of the units well before light on opening day. I've only hunted does there but I have seen bucks. You won't be alone in those units. Mark Viera is or was the terrestrial biologist for that area and might be able to help you out.

I have a 4th rifle tag for 9,19,191. I moved from Fort Collins in JUly after living there for 7 years, I do miss it.
Anyway there is good bucks in the areas you listed as my wife shot a large one last year and I hope to out do her this november!
Unit 9 is 100% private land so if you no somebody or have some $$$ to spend I would not look there. The other units on that tag (19,191) have some private land and I believe the closer you are to private the better your chances are of taking a decent buck. Like John said a lot of the 19 bucks are timber bucks and would be tough to hunt althought the rut is during these tags so your chances will go from 2 to 4% better! It is tough hunting. A friend took a nice 165 ish buck in the lower cherokee park area but used a horse which was good to get further back in there.
Unit 20 probably has more deer than the other units but is really checkerboard in land ownership so get a good map if you shoose this unit (it is only unit 20 on this tag). I have seen some nice bucks in unit 20 dead and alive.
Yes, CWD is the reason for the high number of tags.
