Hello,
This will be my 1st deer hunt. My dad and I will be going to hunt on Oct. 28th. Can anyone help us out on some good spots to try?

Amie

hey if you are planning on hunting around the 16e or 16d area i will be able to help you, let me know

We can hunt either, we will try the whole unit if we have to. My Dad hunted antelope in 16E and he said he was looking at maybe starting out in 16A or 16D. What areas do you think would be the best to try. I'm not looking to find a monster just a legal buck for my first hunt.

thanks, Amie

I hunted that unit years ago and after two days of hiking in and not seeing any deer and tons of elk, we talked to a game warden and he said to concentrate anywhere we found acorns. Sure enough my friend killed a real nice 2 pt on the last day of the hunt in an acorn patch. So concentrate on anywhere you find acorns.

Amie, Unit 16 is a huge unit and highly variable in vegetation types and topography. I have hunted unit 16 for many, many years. Deer densities unit-wide are not what I would call great, but some areas are better than others. Where ever you hunt, I would recommend getting off the roads a fair bit (at least a half mile). If you send me an e-mail, I will tell you about some of my favorite areas.

Check your post on this in the ELk forum, some have posted there.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, weapon in one hand, calls in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
