Lewistown, MT----The Bureau of Land Management's Lewistown Field Office would like to advise recreationists that the camping facilities at the Kipp Recreation Area are full.

The Kipp Recreation Area is a BLM managed camping and recreation area adjacent to the Fred Robinson Bridge where Highway 191 crosses the Missouri River north of Roy, Montana.

The general big game season begins this Sunday and numerous hunters have made their way to the Breaks surrounding the Kipp Recreation Area to pursue elk and or deer. However, the recent rains and snow have made vehicle travel on the gumbo type roads and trails in this area almost impossible. As a result, numerous hunters are staying at Kipp to wait out the weather and the campground is absolutely full.

Oh, I thought he meant "warming".............then I realized two things; first, this isn't the campfire forum and second, the thread wasn't titled "Bush causes E. Montana warring".......

Those roads are going to be a mess this weekend...wow. They are NASTY when they are wet.

Once you posted this thread with that title entry, that is it. No way to correct the wording.
Delete the whole thread and then repeat it again with spelling corrected.

You make the choice, but I'm sure these guys know what you are saying.
What he meant to type was: "Central Montana Warning..."

I came by Kipp tonight at about 6:00 pm, completely full. I saw guys pulling their campers off on approaches and setting up right along the road between Kipp and Malta. Saw one guy stuck out on a two track with a camper buried up to it's axles about 200 yards off the highway. It was raining pretty good and the roads looked terrible.

I estimated that for every hunter there were at least 2 ATV's. Looks like the it will be a crowded opener down there. Was happy to get home to Glasgow.

It has rained hard in SE MT too. I was on the Custer yeaterday morining and even the graveled roads are sloppy. The unimproved roads are likely very bad. People need to be think about where they are going. You may have little problem in the morning when it is frozen but you will be in trouble when it warms up.

NEmont, Playing by ear (depending on weather) hope to swing over next week if it is drying good and the frustrated crowds start to clear. Might bug you for an update then. Good luck and congrats to your daughter on a nice antelope.

life IS good

Little update for those interested.

The warmer, windy weather in the last few days has dried things up a bit. The roads are still far from good. It has been reported that the ruts are "deep enough to plant trout in" in most places.

Most of the roads in the breaks are graded once a year (in the spring), so don't expect to get far off the highway or gravel with a camper this season.

On the upside, the weather should be nice this weekend.
