The night before opening day we spent the night to make sure that we would not get beat to our spot. It over looks the whole canyon which is about 2 miles wide. Beautiful country, right out side of Brewster, Washington my home town. So first light comes and we have been in our spot for about an hour and we are already seeing deer every where. No bucks worth putting a stalk on but we have seen a few 3pts. Its about 8am when I spot this buck walking from the wheat field, into this draw. Well he never left that little draw and I thought to myself that he bedded down. So I new he would be there for a little while. Right about then I notice a bunch of hunters walking in his direction. Oh #####.... They are going to get a shot at him. This went on for like 2 hours people would walk right by him and never even see him. I saw one guy walk within 10 feet of this deer. The deer never moved. So we went back to the truck and a couple of hunters came down and was talking to us, asking if we have seen any bucks.. Of course we told me the truth.."oh no, I haven't seen a shooter all day"...lol.. And this was one of the guys what walked right by him. About 30 mins later we decided it was time to go get him. I walked right through the wheat field, right to the spot were I had seen him enter the draw, and sure enough. There he was bedded down in some tall grass. AT 75 yards I shot him with my .300 WSM. It was a quick drag to the truck. I don't know the exact measurement but I would guess he's around 24 inches wide. He?s a really thick 5-4. I'm not counting the little pincher he was coming off his right g2. So if somebody could help me with the pics I would love to show him to everybody. What a year. I'm leaving tonight to get my little brother a buck like mine. God I love this sport!
