Has anybody killed a buck in Montana yet this year??
Kinda quiet around here for being one of the potentially best hunting seasons Montana has seen in years.
We're going to E. Mont. the third week of Nov.

the rut is almost going in the central part of the state....deer count is up but that is mostly due to large nombers of whitetails....horn growth is great this year though, we saw three nice deer opening day and i was able to harvest this buck any score ideas??? he is a 7x6 sorry for the shadows but he has a pitch fork third inthe bottom forks of both sides and a small 1 inch kicker on the right...1.5 inch browtines and super heavy they say he was 8.5 years old....hopefully this will posthttp://www.monstermuleys.info/dcforum/User_files/4544bfe957b246f0.jpg

I'll be hunting E. Montana the 3rd-11th. Hopefully there will be another Montana buck on here when I return.

I shot a nice 5x5 whitey tonight at last light. I figure he would score between 140 and 150. Ill try to post a picture when I get one.

Are the Mulies in Eastern Montana acting rutty? I'm headed that way in a couple of days and have worried that the warmer weather might have delayed the rut. Are they herding up the does, lip curling and acting stupid?

LAST EDITED ON Oct-30-06 AT 10:28AM (MST)[p]They are starting to run off all the little bucks and gather up their harems. No heavy duty rutting behavior yet but give it about another 10 days.

As for the weather I woke up to three inches of snow and the forecast is for cold the rest of the week.

Heading to Fort Peck on Thursday, until the 15th. Hey tally were on the lake are you staying? Myself and hunting partner will be at Fourchette bay.

They dried out a little but we just got three inches of snow. It is supposed to freeze up pretty good until friday when the high is predicted to be 36. If this snow melts off fast or we get more precip the roads will be nearly impassable. The opening weekend was terrible and there were many stuck rigs all over.

Talked with some ranchers that live on the sun prairie road (a few miles from fourchette bay), they said it snowd 5" last night. Which will make the next week or so interesting. The main road to fourchette shouldn't be much trouble, but the unimproved roads around there will probably be tough.

Did see some slight rutting activity on sunday, hopefully the cold will kick the rut into high gear before the CMR closes on the 12th.

Thanks guys for the info. Looks like next week its really going to warm up, lets hope the extended forecast reports are wrong! Ill be getting there friday, afternoon maybe have to wait for evening to get down to the lake if the road is soupy. Hopefully its not to crowded down there. Thanks again.

Bearhunter,
We stay in Jordan and hunt a ranch 35 miles out the Haxbey road.
We will be there on Nov. 18th. Let me know how you do.

Nebo, I'll be hunting outside my home area around Glendive and Circle area. I have a spot where I found a great looking bachelor group last year that noone seemed to be on except me, so I'm hoping to find them again.
