Hey guys, what do you think of this rifle? I am 17 and on a low budget, and this gun seems to be well made and i can afford it. What is the difference in quality with the sythetic compared to the stainless steel? How is this rifles accuracy and quality? I am left handed, and i know this only coms in right handed, but that shouldnt be a problem. ANY advice will be greatly, greatly appreciated.
THANKS GUYS!

If you go to the guns conference I asked about a Vanguard and received several replys. I believe that it is about the best rifle that you can find in that price range. I bought mine in 300WSM from Sportsmans Wherehouse for 369.

Vangard is a good solid gun. I recently shot a friends to compare the 300 Weatherby it was chambered in with a Winchester Model 70 in 300 Winchester Magnum and a 300 Remington ultra mag in a Remington 700.

The 300 Weatherby Vangard shot very well and grouped very good. Of course the other others did as well. I'm sticking with my Remington 700 ultra mag for now.

Have shot other Weatherbys also and all shot good and handled well.

I would say go for it if the gun suits your fancy.

I think the Vanguard is a good gun, just don't skimp too much on the scope. Good luck - let us know how it turns out.

Nice rifle.

Look at the Tikka T3. Good price, very accurate, comes with rings usually.

Follow previous advice of not scrimping on the scope.......

Bought my son a vanguard couldn't be happier for that price range you can't do much better, that will do anything you need

I shoot a synthetic Vanguard 300 WBY Mag. You can not beat it for the price. My only complaint was the trigger. Had it adjusted and could not be happier.

That's exactly what I shoot, after going through 1/2 dozen rifles. You won't be sorry!!

Thanks guys! The reason for a .300 is as i get older i want something that i can take across north america. Im from Montana, and it could be nice to reach out there and poke something. I looked at them today. Right now i have a .270 ruger. So this is the situation. I am leaning away from the vanguard right now... because weatherby ammo is extremely pricey... I know that it is slightly better than the 300 win mag, or so people say. So right now I am looking at a ruger 300 win mag. What do you guys think of that? I know they have a lawyer trigger that needs some work. My .270 is sure a shooter, so Im hoping the 300 would be the same. Guys any advice on a scope? I know not to skimp on it, i really do, but again i want something with great quality, yet i dont want to sell the ranch for it. Any advice guys is greatly apreciated as you are really my only source for information! I like scopes that are variable, as i have a simmons whitetail classic on my .270.

Thanks!

I have a vanguard 300 wsm sub moa, with a leupold vx-III 3-10. I love the setup. It shoots really tight groups, and I have had good results shooting it at ranges up to 500 yards.

Can't you get a Vanguard in 300 Win. Mag? For a scope, I'd go with a Leupold VX-II in a 3-9x40 for $299. Awesome scope for the money. They're basically the same as the old VariX-III's, which sold for well over $400.

Leupolds are great scopes, but as for right now - I'm sold on the Burris Fullfield II for a good scope for not a lot of $$$ a 3-9x40 can be had for about $200 with the ballistic plex reticle. I own three of them, and wouldn't hesitate to buy more.

Jack O'Connor used to preach that you should spend more money on your binoculars than your scope. Once you have your animal in your sights, any decent scope will help you kill it. I too have Leupold scopes and they are great! Jack would also be disappointed that you are looking for a bigger caliber than the 270. Bullet placement is much more important than how big it is. With premium bullets you can kill anything in Montana with your 270.
Having said all that, I has several guns, but I am currently shooting a 300 WSM in a stainless Browning A bolt--I love how light it is to carry. Good luck!

I also shoot a vanguard 300 wby mag and it is the only gun that I use now for both deer and elk. Mine is the synthetic only although the stainless would be nice. As for the 300 wby cartridge, it is one of the best and deffinately a step up from the short mags or 300 win mag, so go with it, you will not be sorry.
