Has anyone out there ever had any success rattling for mulies in the rut. I have a tag here in Colorado next week and was hoping to improve my odds.
Thanks, fishlips

I've never done it but I've seen it done on several hunting videos. Also a grunt tube is sometimes used. Let us know how it goes. fatrooster.

I have had good luck with a estrous bleat by Primos, not the can just a grunt tube with doe bleat, and gotten their attention with rattle bag. Have rattled in moose as well when whitetail/muley hunting.

Rattling in muleys works O.K. as long as there aren't a lot of hunters out. If there is, I wouldn't bother. You might get shot. If you have the whole place to yourself, and the bucks almost outnumber the does, rattling will bring in a few bucks to look at. Good luck and let us know how you did.

Last year, third season, Unit 43 CO, one of our group was rattling a pair of big sheds he had found, and a 28" 6x6 buck came poundin through the scrub looking for a fight. What he got was a bullet from a .300 RUM. So, I guess it does work. Scott

Thanks for the info. I should be pretty much alone as I cashed in 8 PP for this tag. I'll let you know how it went, B

Thanks for the encouraging reply. I will be east and north of 43. I'll let you know how it goes, B

fishlips,
I've rattled in a few muleys through the years. The key is timing. It's got to coincide with the rut. One thing i've found that helps is you want to kinda rattle the tips of the horns, you dont want to smack em together like they do for whitetail. You want to do some ground scraping with the horns, make it sound like deer are pushing each other around. Then mix in some grunts and every now and the some bleats and remember where there's deer, theres deer scent, so don't forget to put out scent. If you have a area already picked out then once you start gettting close to that area use scent drags, any deer that hears the commotion and happens to hit that scent trail knows there's some hot doe somewhere in that area.
Good Luck!

I'm hoping I hit the rut right as I will be out there next week. Thanks for the good and encouraging info. B

Hey boys,
I'm out of the woods now...without success I'm sorry to say. I saw a nice buck opening morning at about 800 yds. and took a circuitous route to find him. He disappeared like smoke and I never saw him again. I had a few opportunities to kill lesser bucks but wanted a "wall hanger". I found out through the rumor mill that 2- 200 class bucks had been killed on that mountain already this year. I guess that could be part of my bad luck! Its okay though as I got to glass alot of interesting activities. One was a coyote stalking a doe...the dog lost!! Thanks again for all your advise and happy hunting, fishlips

Fish, sorry to hear you didnt get your buck, my buddy was hunting over that direction (not sure what unit)during the third season and there hunt wasnt that good due to the big storm they got during the second season. I think this year second season was the tag to have.

Hey some of you guys that have rattled a little bit over the years I was wondering how efective it is during the tail end of the rut as aposed to the start or middle of the rut. I have a late archery hunt in january, down in arizona, and might try useing this method.
