Just returned from the Entiat late hunt. Score, hunters 4-deer 0. I finished off the hunt by finding a buck this morning that I lost in the fog the day before. He is a heavy 4x5(including eye guards, widest spread is 25 inches. Found him in crum canyon with 5 lady friends, He was sniffing rump and lip curling, I think from being here this long and seeing the way all the big bucks are acting, that the rut is now in full tilt!!!!! My wife took a real nice 5x5(including eye guards), on Tues. off Mud creek, the buck was with 4 does and a 2x3, they were bedded down on a finger ridge at mid-morning 320 yds. off the road, he was laying there without a care in the world, we had time to pull out the Leupold spotting scope an check him out for more than 5 minutes before my wife decided he was a shooter, we got off the road an set up the shooting sticks for an awkward uphill shot. After another 5 minutes of positioning her setup the buck finally got nervous and stood up, only to do a 180 and just stand there broadside looking at us, the rut is an amazing thing! PJ finally gets comfortable and does what she is known for, she drills him through both lungs from 310 yds.(range finder) with her little 7MM-08 shooting 140gr. nosler bt. The show was just awesome to watch as my dad and friend James were also there to see the hunt unfold. Earlier that morning James and my dad drove up Wilkinson canyon, about half way up on the left they spot a small 4 pt. and some does on the ridge, James climbs up after them and misses a free had shot at the 4pt, just as he chambers another round he hears some heavy breathing behind him, he turns just as a doe comes over the steep ridge right at him, behind her is a nice 4x4 24 inch spread 30 ft. away!! Needless to say the small 4pt. lived to see another day. All in all 5 days of hunting my wife and I saw almost 30 bucks, and got the 2 biggest ones we saw. I am working on pictues, so be patient with my cavemanlike computer knowledge. Lets hear some other stories!!!!!
