Why would gooch's claim 404 on this bull?

IMO it's not even close!

Haha! If you don't "give a flying f", then why do I manage to get you all worked up all the time? Lmao
Just don't go into hiding this fall when you eat tag soup or you shoot a 280 monster! I'll be the first on to congratulate you and buy you a steak dinner if you kill one over 320"!

Traditional >>>------->

Lets go $100 you pay me 300"+?

You dont get me worked up!

I really was just wondering why these guys would put that on there site? From what i know of the dudes they are good at what they do.

Tough to judge from only one angle and a picture. I would agree though, this picture doesn't SCREAM 400+ at me. I love the thirds and the split Royals.

"Half of being smart, is knowing what you're dumb about."

Hard to tell from the picture, but I'd put him at 380+. Dang sweet bull! Any other pictures of him?

That is a very impressive bull! Nice fronts and beautiful thirds. Those extras are really neat.

RE: 404

First glance screams 360" to me but, like others have said, add 20+" of bonus stuff, great mass and width and it's close enough.

I'd be proud to have that bull on my wall.

I probably wouldn't call a guy on the carpet even if I KNEW the bull scored lower. My motto: "live and let live"

Is guy mills even guiding anymore I really liked his videos I thought he did a pretty good job on them. He does know his bulls id be willing to bet it was pretty close on the score of that bull. Regardless if that bull is 404 or not it looks freakin sweet.

Sure doesn't look like it would go more than 360"-370" to me, but I'm only looking at a picture and somebody obviously measured him.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-03-11 AT 12:33PM (MST)[p]i dont even see 360 nor close to 400. just by judging a picture i would guess 350 nt. they must of had a typo

I'm with hornkiller on this one. I don't know anyone involved. I'm just looking at the picture and I'm not seeing a 404" bull.

Yes Guy Mills is still guiding and one of the best i have ever hunted with .The whole Gooches bunch are TOP NOTCH
doesnt get any better. They are all very hardworking and know there stuff... I shot a 390 bull in 2009 and passed several 350 plus bulls on 2010 with there help... This bull was officially scored i know that much and he is no where near 320.

Godd Luck to all of You.

It's only a picture...but I am having a hard time getting 400" out of that bull..Good mass and 1st through 3rds are nice..The royals don't seem extremely long and the back end is very weak..Main beams don't look extremely long..

Its just one picture and one angle, but I have to agree that 400" seems a stretch..It is a great bull none the less though..

LAST EDITED ON Aug-03-11 AT 03:01PM (MST)[p]For the life of me I don't see how that bull could go 404" when this bull shot last year by my buddy looks a lot bigger and scored 357 3/8 net after the 60 day drying time. That's 47 more inches and I just can't see it, even with those short extras the other one has.

Don't get an over-blown ego topgun but I'd have to agree with you yet again!

I just looked at the pics of my son's 348" bull and voila.....sons is better looking to me and about the same size in appearance!

Your bud's bull is a dandy there TG!

Zeke

Must just be a bad picture, that is a great bull. I do not see 400" from that picture.

This bull is 402 with the broke royal

Alot of outfitters tape measures start at 7"!! One hell of a bull but sure as hell doesnt look 400+. They may need to get a new camera if that is truly 404.

At the end of the day, does it really matter if it is or not? this is not the first animal on mm to have a bigger score then looks.

From the Boone and Crockett website, non-typical bulls killed in 2006:

1. 441 6/8 Clinton Co., PA John A. Shirk John

2. 410 7/8 Lincoln Co., NV Sam S. Jaksick, Jr.

3. 404 3/8 Beaver Co., UT Mike J. Coelho

4. 403 7/8 Catron Co., NM Charles J. Sillivent

5. 403 2/8 Piute Co., UT Greg Holman

6. 400 5/8 Millard Co., UT Ron Mika

7. 399 2/8 Emery Co., UT Todd Pedersen

LAST EDITED ON Aug-04-11 AT 00:10AM (MST)[p]Picture angle, depth and the way someone positions the animal and the people in the background of the photo can play mad tricks to the eyeball. Maybe it's just a bad angle with no thought on how to position it to show it's mass, width and length. I doubt the outfitter would like to be known for over measuring IMO. But who really cares! It's a toad and it's big enough that most of us on MM will never even get a shot at something equal or bigger...:) thanks for posting such a awesome bull!!

bruin that 30" buck will easily go 190+.LOL

Congrats to your son he looks pleased and THAT is what it's all about!

Bill

Look out Forkie, FTW is watching us!

I'm having a tough time seeing how a bull with a 53" beam (if that!) and 8" G5's can make 400, especially when the other stuff is just "good".

I have seen the bull in person and that picture does it NO justice. It is every bit of 400 inches. One of the heaviest bulls I have ever seen. Don't always trust a picture at a weird angle.

Sorry but the record books dont lie!

Just a bit of info on the bull

Right beam-55 4/8
Left beam-56/3/8

Inside spread- 43 1/8

1st mass- (R) 9 6/8 & (L) 9 2/8

Score-399 2/8

Thanks ODB.....goes to show how pics just don't tell the whole story. If someone told me that bull had 55" beams i'd have been lying to my wife all these years!!
ROFLMAO

I'd sure like to see some more pictures of that bull because if that's his true score the picture is the most deceiving one I've ever looked at on this or any other hunting site!!!

What a monster! Congrats to the hunter.

I think a straight on picture would make it look a lot bigger. I think those thirds are a lot bigger then that picture makes them out to be. And I think the split fourths make them look a little shorter then they are. Awesome bull.

Hornkiller....here are a few more pics of this massive bull. Hope this clears up any question of just how big this bull really is. Of course, its in the record book as well. You can also put in perspective how big this bull is, as Gooch is 6'3", 235lbs

I will be the first to say sorry! that is one hellof a bull and the kill pic makes him look alot smaller.

I never tryed to talk down on gooch's and keep up the good work!

MASSIVE TOAD........THANKS FOR THE PICS. WHEN IT COMES TO PICS OF TROPHYS YOU ALWAYS NEED TO PROCEED WITH CAUTION.....THEY CAN BE MISLEADING.............................YD.

Yes it is and that definitely shows how hard it is to judge here on the Forums, especially the way certain pictures don't do justice to the animal. I think the first picture that got this thread going was a good example of what can happen when looking at just one picture or at a certain angle. I can't believe that is even the same rack as the last couple photos posted and I'm glad we were really able to get a good look. Thanks!

Awesome bull by an awesome guiding business. One of the best out there and seem to be as consistant as ANYONE in taking down giant bulls. Keep it up GOOCH, AND CREW. You obviously know what you are doing.

God, I LOVE this forum! The entertainment is without comparison!

".....but by God, I never said a word to a pig!"

That's a BIG bull! Mass, tine length, extras, etc... that bull has so much going on. If I had a tag and saw that bull, there would be no question in my mind that it's a shooter.
