Here are a couple pictures of the elk Skyler killed in a Limited Opportunity hunt in Arizona. Four days of hard hunting and lots of miles on his body he finally sealed the deal on this awesome bull in full velvet. Not bad for a 12 year olds first elk.

Gorgeous bull. Great fronts and backs. Just a tremendous trophy.
Congratulations to the young man on his first elk.

You said: ""now 12 year olds are killing elk in August, what next?""

Your nuts will drop and you'll be able to complement a young hunter on a nice kill!

Well done, young hunter!

piper makes a good point. A 12 year old hunts with one of the best guide services in AZ, in August, before anybody else, with a rifle, killing a 370" bull...

Seems to me it's more than just "hooked for life", I'd say it's just about "ruined him for life" LOL Where do expectations go from there...??

It is a sweet bull though...

You could have applied for one of the tags just the same as him....

He pulled off that shot like a marine corps sniper! Tons of composure for a 12 year old! Congrats on an awesome bull guys!

I wish you had some ground footage of that toad!

I have a crush on that rifle set-up. 300RUM? Probably more than capable of pulling off that 850 yd shot earlier Im sure!

"You skin grizz?"

Wow very impressive. Congratulations to that young man! I hope he had a very enjoyable hunt regardless if he had killed that monster or not.

Please don't misunderstand my post- I simply meant that there's not a lot to hope for after having a Hunt of a Lifetime at such a young age... At least as far as elk are concerned... I meant no disrespect to the youth program... or the young hunter... :D :D

Congrats thats an awesome bull!

So whats the story on a hunt like this? Is it for disabled kids or a youth only hunt or something?
How much did it cost to shoot such an animal ?

The limited opportunity hunts are available to everyone in the regular elk draw. Nothing special about them except they are in areas of nontraditional elk habitat. Elk numbers are usually very low. The cost is the same as any other regular elk tag. Just check the AZ hunting regs in the elk section and look at the limited opportunity hunts available.

And congrats on an awesome bull!!

VERY HUGE Congrats to that young hunter! He should be proud! From that little bit of footage he seems like a great kid and the composure shown was amazing! Good for him and I hope he has many more years of success!

Addict. The gun is a 30-378 Weatherby. The 12 year old has a awesome personality and never complained on the numerous multi mile hike we went on. He also shoots more than most adults do. The gun is set up to shoot a long ways and he practices at varied ranges through the year in hopes of a good tag. Him and his brother also drew a good Junior Deer hunt in AZ so you might see more of his face soon. Take kids hunting and pass on the sport we all love so much!

Huge congrats to Skylar! He and his dad did their homework. They knew the hunt was going to be tuff before they applied. When they drew the hunt they spent TONS of hours scouting! They did more scouting and preparations for this hunt than most do for an early rut hunt. All the hard work and 3:00 mornings paid off as it should have. Tuff hunt, hard work and a great bull! Congrats again Skylar!
