The winter is getting cold here in Montana fast and I need some good pac boots. I have never bought good ones before. Any ideas on where to look for a good pair? What brands are good? What brands aren't? Where do I go to get the most boot for the buck?
Thanks guys,

It depends a lot on what you intend to do with them and how much you'd like to spend. If you are just shoveling snow and not doing a whole lot of walking then a pair of Sorels with thick wool liners would be your cheapest good solution. If you are going to do a lot of walking and maybe hiking AND have some bucks to spend then Schnee's makes a very fine pac boot that you can hike in ( I only hike in my schnees if my insulated hiking boots are damp inside). They don't come cheap though.

Sometimes you can get a good deal from Schnees in their used or returned section.

The best thing about a good pair of pac boots is you can change the liners from a damp pair to a dry pair. They are clumsier than a pair of good insulated hiking boots and more suited to snowmobiling, the duck blind, or working. I have and use both depending on circumstances.

I have owned several pairs of Whites Pac's. and they worked fine for me. But if I was going to buy a new pair of Pac boots I would take a look at Schnee.

Just bought a pair of Schnee's. And they are amazing. Really warm and comfortable. My dad has had a pair for over 10 years and he loves his. Check em out on line, they get your stuff to you really quick also. And they are made in Montana too!

Just bought a pair of Schnees. Cheaper then the Whites. Bought mine more for riding though.

I have a pair of Hoffman's pac boots. They also have an excellent boot that is rebuildable. The model I own, I believe is call the predator extreme and they come with removable calk's (spikes for excellent grip on woody debris under the snow). They are pretty comfy, keep my feet dry and are a really "hike-able" boot. www.hoffmanboots.com

A friend of mine has a pair of Schnees and they also look very comparable to the Hoofman's I own probably couldn't go wrong with either brand.

I'm wearing a pair of 16" Schnees right now. It was -10 at the house this morning (Bet most of you had no idea it could drop below zero in AZ). I just got these a couple weeks ago, and I love them.

SCHNEE'S, Iv'e had mine since the early 90's. They are built very well and can be rebuilt! Good luck.

After years of going through different boots, including danners, I bought a pair of Whites yukon survivors. They are by far the best boots I have ever owned, you can get an extra set of liners so you can change them if they get wet. I hunted last night, hiking in over a foot of snow, 5 deg temps and my feet never got cold. As said before if you wear them out they are rebuildable for a reasonable price. I paid around $180-$190 for them. I have used them on horseback also you just need a wider stirrup like a oxbow or something similar.
