Devistating first day

Well, my first day was happening just like it did in my dreams. I had spotted 8 bulls 20 minutes after light, including the nice 6x6 that I got pictures of last weekend. after a 1 mile stalk, the 6x6 was walking into my shooting lane at 31 yds. Just as I got to full draw, a 4x1 came running into the lane and stayed there. I passed up a shot on him (regretting that!) and he had me at full draw for 2 minutes before turning and walking right down my shooting lane with the giant still in the background!! He came to 10 yds and stared me down for a while, never allowing me to take a shot at the big guy. Eventually he jumped the whole herd and they cautiously moved off.

My questions is, do you any of you have experience with a situation like this? The bulls were not completely scared as they hung around at about 100 yds for 10 minutes before feeding briskly away. Do you think there is a chance that they will return to that general area?

Unless they are what I call "transitional elk" they should stay relatively close from the sounds of it. Often though at this time of the season I find alot of elk that are already transitioning to lower haunts.....usually private ground so they will be moving downcountry gradually regardless. All depends on the area. If you are back in aways I would still look for them to be using that same area next weekend though. Hope you get another chance at him!

Well I'm hoping that you are right. I am also in 28 so hopefully they stay put. They were in the same spot 2 weeks in a row and they are quite a few miles from where I have seen any people. This will be haunting me for the next 2 weeks. I have a muzzleloader deer tag for the area, so it will not be complete waste hiking in there even if the elk don't come back. That would suck though.

Let me know if you score on anything in 28.
