Any LE Archery guys sealed the deal on this unit yet or have pictures? My brother drew one of the LE Any Weapon tags and I'm getting excited to go in there and help.

A friend is guiding an archer down there right now and it's been tough for them. Too hot and the bulls are staying in the thick of trees. I had a muzzleloader permit there in 2009 and it was the same situation. Both the archers and the any weapons guys didn't get to hunt that much in the heat of the rut. I was excited cause I knew that meant some of the big bulls weren't taken.

Honestly one of the coolest places to hunt. No fourwheelers, no lights or campers just wilderness. Have fun and make sure you let us know how your friend did.

Here is the bull I took down there. http://www.myrockymountainhunting.com/gallery/2009-bookcliffs-elk-hunt/

Nope. They had a nice bull at under 30 yards but just couldn't get a shot off. If I hear anything I'll let you guys know. A friend of mine has a muzzleloader permit down there as well. Anything I hear I'll share.

That was a great looking bull and a good story.

Jhartwell, Thanks for the story. So in your opinion would it be foolish to try to hunt the roadless without horses?

@CWeeks honestly it depends on how good of shape you are in and how ambitious you are. I shot my bull back in 7 miles. My bull was a 9 year old that added up to a lot of weight. It would have taken me quite a few trips in to get the animal out. There are a few options if you don't have horses:

1. Go in and if you get one tough it out and pack it out in however many trips you need. This would be way hard and take quite a bit of time.

2. Contact someone with horses before hand and if you get one call them and have them come in and help pack it out. You would have to pay them to come help but it's definitely an option.

I would say it would be really tough without horses, in the end they were a lifesaver for our trip.

I hope this helps!

I tagged out on Sunday!!! Shot a 354 bull! Good times! I posted it in another thread.
